This makes it exactly the same price as just paying $15 month to month on xbox. No point in bothering with a code or prepaying.

As a hardcore gamer that has gotten older and had kids, my priorities have unfortunately changed, resulting in much less time playing Xbox than I used to have. I found that I was playing many games months to years after they released and don't have consistent time to keep up with every new release that I like. I just gave Xbox Game Pass a go because I saw they have many AAA and indie games that I'd love to play and never got to. I'll never get to all of them, but it's awesome being able to try a game and decide it's not worth playing in the limited time I have, and just moving on to something else. And they had new games every month and, while they also take games out, they seem to add more than they take out. Last I checked the service has 193 games but is advertised as 100+ games. Not including games I've tried and moved on from, so far I've played Rocket League, Riptide Renegade and have already installed Hitman, Tomb Raider, The Division and Gears of War 4. It's going to be hard deciding which to play next! For $10/month, I don't see myself buying a game for a while

Ok, so perhaps you're wondering why this review is titled, "BUYER BEWARE." Allow me to elaborate...
Xbox has a few DIFFERENT subscription-based services. They offer the following:

- Xbox Live Gold: This will allow gamers to play online with other gamers. It is also required if you want to chat with other Xbox gamers. This runs at a base fee of $9.99/month

- Xbox Live GamePass: This is access to a library of select games that you can play for a monthly price. Think of it like Netflix, but for games. This subscription runs $9.99/month. Note: many of these games REQUIRE Xbox Live Gold to play. If you plan on buying a GamePass subscription, also plan on buying an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Or, you can buy...

- Xbox GamePass Ultimate: a combination of both Xbox Live + GamePass, bundled into 1. This is the subscription you want. Let me repeat that one more time: GAMEPASS ULTIMATE IS THE SUBSCRIPTION YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO PURCHASE. It runs $14.99/month and includes everything needed to play the GamePass games AND play them online.

Do not bother with this 6 month subscription to GamePass unless you rarely speak to others over Xbox and are mainly into solo, single-player games only. GamePass alone is not worth $120/year. Skip it, and thank me later.

I already subscribe to Game Pass, but had to pick up two of these cards when they were 50% off!

If you don’t know, Game Pass is a subscription service that give you access to a large catalog of games. As long as you have a subscription, you can play those games. It also gives you a discount on the purchase price of the games included in the service, if you decide to buy a game to own it after your subscription ends. MS has said that they will release all first party game on Game Pass at launch. Instead of buying Sea of Thieves when it launched, I subscribed to Game Pass and played it the day it went live (and still play it)!

One heck of a deal!

BOGO FREE! How can you not get that deal? Xbox Game Pass in itself is already one heck of a deal with Microsoft first party games being released day-one on to the platform, but also getting support by recently released Square Enix games (as well as other publishers) such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Just Cause 4. Xbox Game Pass is ideal for any gamer who has a limited budget, but can still play quality titles in the Xbox ecosystem. I personally use it to demo the latest and greatest Xbox titles, but also ones I might have passed up like Quantum Break, Guacamelee!, Hellblade, Devil May Cry 4, Life is Strange, Ori and the Blind Forest, ReCore, We Happy Few, etc.

Possibly one of the hidden features.. if you already have a physical copy of a game on their list, it basically turns the game in to a digital purchase (while you have an active account on Game Pass and the game license hasn't run out). I tend to favor those games more than other physical games that I have due to the ease of use. I've actually purchased more titles after playing them on Game Pass than if I hadn't.

Parents, grandparents, girlfriends, or anyone else buying a gift for a gamer:

This is not the version your gamer wants. Do not buy this.

If you're buying this as a gift, your gamer will also need to buy the cheaper "Xbox Live Gold" subscription or upgrade this to the more expensive "Game Pass *Ultimate*" subscription in order to be able to play with their friends.

This subscription only provides access to a selection of older, single-player games. They almost certainly want to play with their friends. The subscription that allows them to do that is "Xbox Live Gold". (amazon.com/dp/B002VBWIP6/).

If they asked for the game pass, the *probably* want "Game Pass Ultimate", not this crippled version.

Careful this is only game pass not ultimate

This is only for the games, its not for ultimate or gold, so you will only have access to play the games they have up for playing while subscribed. So if you want to play say fortnite you need ultimate or gold, but if you go with gold the game pass is not part of it.

There is an intentional processing delay after purchasing so you cannot acess the code right away. It’s to prevent fraudulent activity. Amazon said it could be up to 4 hours but mine took 10 minutes.
