I just wanted to do a quick comparison between this bundle and the Sony PS4 Pro, in case there were still some people on the fence between the two, and a little between the improvements of the One S over the original Xbox One.
Here is a quick glance at the specs of the PS4 Pro:
Price: (MSRP)$400, but right now only $340! Sony PlayStation 4 Pro - 1TB
Contents of packaging:
PS4 Pro system
DualShock 4 controller
Monaural headset
Power cord; HDMI cable; USB cable
PS4 Pro specs:
Main processor: Custom-chip single processor
CPU: x86-64 AMD “Jaguar” with 8 cores
GPU: 4.2 TFLOPS; AMD Radeon-based graphics engine
Memory: GDDR5 8GB
Storage: 1TB hard-disk drive
Dimensions: 295mm X 55mm X 327mm; Mass: 3.3Kg
Optical drive: Blu-ray 6-speed, DVD 8-speed
HDMI output; Optical digital output
3 USB 3.1 ports; 1 Aux port
Ethernet port
IEEE 802.11 A/B/G/N/Ac Wi-Fi
Bluetooth 4.0
Power supply: AC 100V, 50/60Hz
Max power consumption: 310W
In terms of raw power and tera FLOPS, the PS4 Pro is about 2 1/3 stronger than the original PS4 and PS4 Slim(which is at 1.84 TFLOPS). The original Xbox One came in at 1.31 TFLOPS, while the One S is around 1.4 TFLOPS. While the specs on the One S over the original One does not sound much on paper(only about 7% increase), it is noticeable in some games. The most simplest way to explain this is the small advantage a 3rd party graphics card has over the original OEM card(such as an MSI graphics card over the stock NVIDIA or AMD card). So in a nutshell, unless you find a really really good deal for the original Xbox One, just get an Xbox One S. $212 for this bundle is almost a steal, considering it was still at $300 earlier this year.
Between the Xbox One S and the PS4 Pro, though, the comparisons get a little more tricky. To me, it boils down to what games you like, because that's what will truly make you decide, because if it was just in terms of sheer power, the PC path always wins. The Sony path does indeed provide some advantages such as the more robust games from Japan, like the JRPG's and games like Persona 5, certain Final Fantasy games, etc., and of course, the Sony exclusives such as God of War, Uncharted, Gran Turismo, etc. On the other hand, if you like Gears of War, Halo, Forza, Fable, etc. then of course you should get the Xbox One S. Battlefield is a great game, one of the best ever in the Battlefield franchise. It goes back into story-telling and experience, over visual gimmicks. But don't get me wrong, the graphics of this game is top-notch as well. But more so than most games in this franchise, you feel more immersed into the game, like you are playing a grand cinematic movie spectacle.
Oh yeah, and one more thing: The Xbox One S has a 4K Blu-ray player, which the PS4 Pro does NOT! I know there are some issues with the Xbox One S being able to play all the 4K Blu-ray discs, but this should be fixed in the near future. Sony, cutting costs, made a HUGE error. People might not be using this to mainly watch 4K Blu-rays, but being able to without the need to spend another $100+ for a dedicated 4K Blu-ray player is still a huge bonus. What were you thinking, Sony???
Also, there are compatibility issues with certain TV's - mostly with LG and Vizio - where it is not displaying a 4K resolution. There is a temporary fix that some people have found out, but for now, it seems like Sony has another issue on its hands.
If your budget is over $300, then you can consider the PS4 Pro, but if you compare this to the $212 PS4 Slim - PlayStation 4 Slim 500GB Console - Uncharted 4 Bundle - I think the Xbox One S offers a better overall value for now.
