Definitely an upgrade but multiple problems within a few months make the price debateable.

Definitely an upgrade but multiple problems within a few months make the price debateable.
First the bad, got this in 2016 and was a little disappointed that the extra paddles can't be mapped as a stand alone function. What I mean by that is you can only map other standard buttons to them so a,b,x,y,rb,lb,stick press etc. You cannot use these like a joystick button to map a function directly to upper left paddle for instance, rather you have to map it to "a" and then map "a" to the paddle. So you're essentially getting four additional placements for buttons' functions the regular controller already has. Secondly, the rubber grips are terribly made and will start to bubble and warp within just a few months of using them as the rubber gets very stretched or loose quickly. I've heard you can get replacements free from Microsoft via warranty before the 1 year mark but I've taken to cutting them to resize and gluing them as without the grips the controller is terrible to hold and I didn't get replacements before the 1 year mark. My left joystick began registering as leaning slightly right within just 3 months of use and the customization basically only allows you to fix this by desensitizing or increasing the dead zone. It can be worked around but I was expecting better for the price I paid. I don't like that it doesn't (or at least my 2016 version) have Bluetooth support for PC without a dongle like the one s/x controllers do now. You can however plug it directly into a standard usb and it will power it and work just fine. Lastly it took 2 years but the nylon charging cable no longer works, and I'm getting a replacement from amazon. Now for the good, I do like the feel of the controller and it's metal/rubber components much more than the regular plastic controllers. The paddles really do help you gain more flexibility with hand placement as you can now keep fingers where they need to be and map pesky bumper or otherwise large movement functions to the paddles instead of removing your fingers from triggers to push a bumper. I find using them for functions where you have to keep the buttons pressed much better as it's easier on the hand than mashing or holding a,b,y,x. The extra d-pad option is great, especially for fighting games and side scrollers; the extra sticks I guess are cool but they all feel too long/awkward compared to the regular ones so I haven't really used them. I do like the controller customization interface and really like that you can save the loadouts and they follow you to PC or any other Xbox using the same interface for both. I also really like the zipper padded case it comes in and the cutouts for all the extra pieces so they aren't just rattling around in the case. The battery compartment is standard and there's nothing different about the headphone jack.TL;DR: it's a nice upgrade from the standard controller but the quality seems somewhat lacking for the price and I had issues within just a few months of use. I still enjoy using it but I've had to resort to cutting and gluing to fix the grips, buying an aftermarket charging cable, and awkward work-arounds for the loose left stick.

Like most, I originally saw this controller and thought that while it looked great and had great features, the $150 price tag was just too much. I can say now that after using it for months I was wrong. This is hands down the best controller I have ever owned. I have played video games since I was a child and have owned almost every system that has been released. I have seen controllers evolve from a pad with a joy stick and two buttons all the way to this masterpiece. The Xbox One controller is already a great controller but the Elite takes it to the next level with its velvet feeling analogue sticks, trigger adjustment switches, back paddles, smooth finish, and the many customizable profile features which are very easy to edit and swap and will persist as active even when connected to the PC. This is a solid, premium feeling controller that is worth the cost even for standard gaming, but will definitely increase your control and ability within many games. It is ideal for shooters as well as flight games like Elite Dangerous where the controls are complex and you feel like you would use a few extra fingers lol. All in all an outstanding product that I would (and do) urge others to buy.

I was going to make a pros and cons list but honestly its already in the features. Every feature is a pro and I honestly have yet to have any problem with it. Buy it now and thank me later.

Edit 2/22/17: After using this controller heavily on the PC and Xbox One I finally encountered a failure. While it has experience some general use wearing like buttons becoming slightly softer and the sticks loosening a bit it wasn't until this morning that something actually broke. The right bumper snapped from the thin plastic that holds it in place and is responsible for it rebounding after being pressed. Being well out of warranty and no real options I am purchasing the parts from amazon to fix myself.

Cons: Bumpers will break with heavy use. Two most common examples are bumper jumpers on Halo and, as in my case, RB being the main attack button in For Honor.

Still the best controller I've owned.

I've used this controller nearly every day since around November 21, 2015 (Amazon won't show when it arrived). I would consider myself a "hardcore" gamer. Video games are my number one hobby. I like to win, and therefore spend a lot of time playing competitive games such as Halo, Overwatch, and occasionally Call of Duty.

The trigger stops are nice, but the paddles are incredible. I don't think I need to explain the benefits of being able to aim and, say, jump at the same time. The grip is also very comfortable and certainly has a noticeable amount of extra grip if your hands sweat when you play.

After 30+ hours of use a week for over two years (approximately 800 hours), I am only just noticing some slight wear and tear. The left joystick has a mushier click and a little bit of a dead zone, but remains 100% effective. And that's it. No trouble with the grip, bumpers, paddles, or trigger stops.

I plan on continuing to use this until it becomes ineffective, at which point I will buy another with zero hesitation.

PROs:
- Paddles are a huge advantage. Pay to win?
- Paddles are sensitive (may be a con for you) and conveniently placed for small hands.
- Interchangeable sticks allow on-the-fly customization. They're held in place with magnets, but with a clever design that has prevented them from ever falling out or even being loose.
- Trigger stops, easily enabled/disabled.
- 8-way D-pad.
- Can sync endless controller configurations to your Xbox account and save two directly on the controller. Switching between these two is instant.
- Premium hardshell carrying case (you will want to bring this with you, going back to crappy regular controllers won't be good enough).
- Braided USB cable.
- Textured grip.

CONs:
- Paddles are sensitive (a pro, in my opinion) and further to the sides of the controller than a SCUF (also a pro, in my opinion)
- D-pad lifts up a bit during use -- may be a problem for fighting games

--
Conclusion: BUY BUY BUY if you want a long-lasting controller that provides a tangible competitive advantage.

Purchased the Elite Xbox One controller from Amazon after all my local retailers were sold out. I can say I am very satisfied with the product after a day of use. Tested with Halo 5 and Forza Motorsport 6.

Pros:
- The best controller for those who want to take their gaming experience to the next level.
- The highest amount of physical customization out of the box that I have ever seen in a controller.
- Includes 3 different types of joysticks (short and tall concave, medium convex), 4 back paddles (which can be removed individually if you want to use 1/2/3/4 at a time), and 2 different types of d-pads to allow you to adjust the physical feel of the controller.
- Triggers can be switched to "hair-trigger" height where the triggers do a full stop at 50% to allow faster use in shooters.
- Allows you switch between 2 different customizable controller profiles on the fly by using the 1/2 switch on the front of the controller.
- Recent updates allow button remapping on all Xbox One controllers, and goes to a greater degree with the Elite controller. The back 4 paddles can be mapped to any other button on the controller (I used them for the A,B,X,Y buttons for Halo 5), all the rumbles in the controller can be adjusted from 0-100%, and the joysticks can be set to different profiles that give a faster response or permanent inversion.
- All the parts have a very premium feel. The controller has a matte finish, textured grips, metal pieces, a slick black/grey color scheme, and a heavier weight to it which all make it feel like a true premium controller.
- Has a 3.5mm headphone jack like all the new Xbox One controllers.
- Includes a premium feeling 9 foot braided USB cable.
- Drivers are installed natively for Windows 10 (drivers need to be installed on Windows 7/8/8.1), so the controller can be used on PC with the included USB cable, or wirelessly with the Xbox One Wireless controller adapter (not included).
- Once you acclimate to it, the controller does give you a competitive edge in multiplayer games like Halo 5, Gears of War, and Destiny, and mapping the paddles to gear shifts in Forza 6/Horizon 2 is very satisfying.
- Compatible with all the regular first party controller accessories like the headset, headset adapter, and upcoming chatpad.
- Comes with an awesome carrying case to store your controller and the extra parts.
- Compared to a similar SCUF controller is approximately $200 USD as opposed to the $150 of the Elite Controller, not including the fact that the Elite controller's parts can be changed on the fly and are included with the controller.

Cons:
- Even comparatively in value to the SCUF, $150 USD is still more than twice the price of the regular controller. For the average user this is not worth the value in my own opinion.
- For the price I was hoping that it would include a plug and play charge kit.
- I can't confirm but apparently the controller is not compatible with third party charging stands.

Overall, if you're the person who wants a that edge online, or a wants a solid controller with a premium feel that can be adjusted to your own specifications, this controller is for you. The price tag can be hard to justify for average users, although for power users who want to play competitively it is very much worth the $150.
