1. When you plug it in and install the xbox one controller driver you will get a device called "Controller" in your "Devices and Printers" under control panel. You will also get driver not found errors.
2. Right click controller and view its properties and chose update driver.
3. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software," and then choose "Let me pick from a list...." options.
4. Choose "Microsoft Xbox One Controller"
5. Then again choose "Microsoft Xbox One Controller"
The gamepad should work now. MS really needs to update something as not having the official drivers auto detect it on PC is stupid.
That said this is a nice improvement over the original controller. Its heavier and the rumble seems stronger. Most importantly the shoulder buttons are vastly improved over the first version. Just clicking them they feel similar, but the improvement is the fact they simply work. Now I can preform shoulder button operations with ease where it was hit or miss before. No longer do I have to jam my finger hard down on the button to ensure that pop-up radial menu will stay up or that grenade will chuck.
I don't have any 3.5 mm jack headsets, but it hear its a little hit or miss on PC at the moment. Hopefully it will improve very soon with updates.
If you don't have a xbox one controller and want one, buy this, get the 3.5 mm version, the old one isn't worth your time. If you are considering upgrading and don't wanna pay top dollar for the elite controller I would say the much improved shoulder buttons make it worth while.
If you can afford to wait until christmas this year, the windows 10 only PC wireless adaptor is coming and will no doubt come bundled with a controller.
Love the design, love the controller but for 65$ it could've at least came with a Micro USB cable. (yes i knew it did not come with it i read the description). The plug and play combo (while writing this review) is 63.94$ and it comes with the rechargeable battery and cable. For those not aware this uses 2 AA batteries. ( you can put a rechargeable battery in it) the minus 1 star was how long it took to get here. pre ordered it and i didn't get it till about a a week and a half later.
The mic is not supported on PC if that's something you are wondering either.
Notes
To use your Xbox One controller with your console after using it with a PC, you must re-sync the controller to the console. You can do this by using the wireless sync button or a USB cable. For details, see Connect a wireless Xbox One controller to your console.
The Xbox One Wired Headset and Xbox One Stereo Headset are not currently compatible with a PC when connected through the Xbox One controller. If you have one of these connected to your PC and want audio using one of these headsets, you must connect directly to the PC using the 3.5mm port on your PC.
to get the drivers go to MS site- http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/controller-pc-compatibility
As of today they have released drivers/updates to allow their xbox mics to work on PC and i have been able to get the audio to come out from the controller using my Iphone earphones.
My only dissapointment with this controller was the 3.5mm jack... I thought that you could plug any headphones/headset and it would work both audio and mic, (just like a PS4 controller) you see I play mostly with my Bose headphones because I dont need a big headset because It's uncomfortable for me, soo I did some testing and in my conclusion, it turns out if the headset has buttons to controll the volume you will get the audio but the mic won't work (tried with Bose and Beats headphones) but if you have a headphones with a simple mic without buttons to control the volumen you are good! (Using steelseries headphones/ tried with razer headphone and worked). Problem solved, but was dissapointed since in a PS4 the controller I can use any headphone. This must be a most already!
Original Post Dec'15:
On the original XBox One Controller, I broke several buttons in the first year, the first in just a few months, and replaced the LB button twice. This controller has been beefed up, had it for a 6 months now, and still holding strong. It feels more sturdy and solid. The LB button feels like it has more support. The special edition comes with the camo, but the texture is awesome. Looks great, feels great! If you're looking to get a new controller, because your original is busted, this one does the trick. I'm not quite at Elite Level, so I will probably hold off on an Elite Controller, but this one was totally worth it.

The controller is very responsive, and has a nice sleek feel to it. It's not too heavy, and is ergonomic. I've used the controller for up to a few hours at a time and it has never caused me any discomfort. I like the fact that you can use AA batteries, or buy a rechargeable battery pack that plugs right into the controller. The plug is also for updating your Xbox One controllers, so don't forget to plug it in and check for updates every now and then, especially if you ever run into any problems.
The one thing I noticed is that the entire surface of this controller is smooth whereas some other Xbox One controllers like the Lunar White edition have a pleasant textured surface on the bottom of the grips where your fingers rest. I prefer the textured feel of the Lunar White version more, but this is still a very good controller..
