In reality, this isn't an Xcelite, but the venerable Camillus TL-29 in disguise. In fact, if you're careful, you can see the "CAMILLUS" tang stamp on the main blade in the product photo I have one made in the 1970s without the Xcelite branding.

Unlike a Swiss Army knife, this knife only has three major functions. A tough single blade that's easy to sharpen and is razor sharp, and a locking flat head screwdriver with a wire stripping and scraping area on the blade.

For most cases, this is all I need. In fact, I helped my grandfather install the back part of the rail of his truck tarp, and all I used was this. Luckily, the screws were just the right size for the large flat blade screwdriver.

Both blades, strangely, have half stops. I can understand it for the screwdriver, but not the blade. I would assume there was a reason for this for when Camillus designed this knife for the Signal Corps during WWII.

Still, it's usually accompanied with a multitool for various reasons, the lack of tools being one of them.

I have a Colonial using a similar pattern made during the same time, and it doesn't compare. The tools were thinner, and all brass parts were actually brass plated.

It sharpens easily, and stays sharp moderately long. It doesn't stay sharp as long as stainless, and it does rust, but it's easier to sharpen and can become much sharper, and that's why I prefer carbon steel.

I recommend the original TL-29 to everyone. I may get one myself with the Xcelite branding for my collection, or so I can retire my vintage TL-29.

The TL-29 is a legend among pocketknife designs. More people I know carry these instead of multitools, and I can see why. A tough knife in a rather small and attractive package.

The description is confusing the title says 4" blade and the descriptions says overall length 4". I went ahead and ordered hoping the overall length was truly 4". The closed length is actually 4" and the blade length is 4" so the overall length is 8". Also the description says sold in pack of 6 but I only recived 1 knife. Even if you are looking for this size knife it is on the heavy side.
