The entire Xenoblade experience is a breath of fresh of air. Not since the Playstation 2 has there been a more captivating JRPG. Strange that it wound up on the Wii of all systems, but it's probably the only reason why I haven't sold mine yet.
Gameplay: 75 hours in and just completed story mode. This doesn't include optional weapons, bosses, quests, exploration. It's not turned based like old school RPGs, it plays out in real time with an action bar and commands on cool down - very similar to World of Warcraft, actually. You level up, get skill points, allocate skill points, and dominate foes. This game is not for the weak hearted, though. Crazy amounts of grinding levels, accompanied with a huge amount of side quests that tie into a developing social-structure in game will give you hours upon hours of stuff to do -- and can become a little tedious toward end game.
Graphics: Some of the best on the Wii. I haven't been blown away by colors or environments in an RPG since Final Fantasy X on the PS2, and Xenoblade might even do it better.
Sound: Memorable and easy to listen to music. Doesn't get too tedious, but a little old after 70 hours. Voice acting is decent, but Nintendo could've put some more work into it.
Control: Easy, breezy, beautiful. Use a classic controller.
Story: Very engaging, always leaving you wanting more. Not going into any details whatsoever, but plot twist after plot twist mixed with awesomely unique characters makes your personal life seem inadequate.Read more ›
2nd best game on the wii (hard to beat mario galaxy) one of my favorite rpgs in a very long time and a game that shows that jrpgs can still be relevant.
Pros: immense immersive story world/universe
Cool weopans and equipment
Unique battle system great jrpg evolution
Great voice acting
Minimal grinding required
Tons to do! Took me 75 hours and hitting up only portion of quests
Not a sequal! Rare these days.
Music well done
Character design and monster design both well thought out
Streamlined rpg: quick travel to landmarks, die and not lose exp or items gained, save almost anytime (dunno why more console rpgs don't do this)
Build relationships w party members and npcs gain rewards and enhance story mostly optional
Characters change appearance w equipment in all cutscenes as well
Challenging but not frustrating
Skills learned keep you wanting to level up
For the wii...good graphics
Magical and I have not felt that real rpg magic since the snes psx classics, if you miss it here it is! First rpg since chrono trigger I'm doing new game+
Some loooong cut scenes
Only 3 characters at once and 1 real healer limits variety don't get to use and play with all as much as you'd like
Do reach skill plateau but better than most togs
Towns cities could have been more impressive especially on 2nd world
On the wii, sequal for wiiU (fingers crossed)
Buy it as soon as you're able and I give a 9.5 out of 10 odds u shan't be dissapointed. (o:
Graphics: impressive for the Wii, huge environments, solid framerate. The facial expressions on the main characters (during real time cutscenes) is most impressive to me, may not be the 'micro-expressions' as in Halo4 or LA Noir but still one of the best I've seen rendered in real time. I wish this game was in HD!
On a technical note saving and loading is near instant when on the same map and loading a different maps take ~13s.
Sound: Music is phenomenal, English voice acting is good, (British accents are refreshing compared to the poochy squeaky voices I often hear in Japanese games and anime).
Gameplay: many compare it to FF-XII, I compare it to Star Wars:KOTOR, only you control the leader, there is (generally) no pause during combat and characters do regular attacks automatically but you can select special attacks and skills to use them. Easy to learn and addicting.
Story: In the begining two titans Bionis (the organic one) and Mechonis (the mechanical one) battled for eons until they eventually killed each other and life emerges ON their bodies... War rages between the robotic 'Mechon' and the human-like 'Homs'... You play Shulk, a young scientist who (thankfully is NOT a whiny brat and) is researching the sword (the Monado) that helped to Homs defeat the Mechon. Main story is very compelling feels like a watching a good anime, and you can easily get attached to the main characters.Read more ›

While the game provides you with plenty of content, enough to make the purchase feel worthwhile, I have to say that even after playing it for many hours, I don't love it. Read morePublished 3 months ago by DriveinMutant
