Although the consensus matches my feelings on this guide, the 5 star posters who say 'you can't please everyone with the way the data is arranged' are missing a key point: Most of the data in this guide is exactly what's in the in-game Intel, with nothing new added.
They spend a great many pages(maybe 200?) listing out all of the missions and monsters in the game, without information that is missing from the game(but would be incredibly useful) such as location of a given monster. The only use this could have is if you were going to use this expensive guide as a checklist for the missions(I don't write in books.) This book follows the Japanese 'fan book' model(where you're buying the book as a show of support, basically) more than a guide.
While the book is attractive and visually well executed, there is only one thing I've found very useful in this guide: The gathering regions map(for all those Spherical EM Motors and so on that you'll need.) These are great and I refer to them often.. however I bet there similar maps freely available online(and for some items, NPCs in town will give you hints, if you're the note-taking type.) I saw a post stating that the FrontierNav map is useful too, but I ended up making something myself in paint.net instead.
I wanted to like this book, but I found myself frustrated having to continually page through all the useless information that should have been excluded while looking for something, only to find the guide doesn't have the info I DO want, and I have to go back to searching the web. I didn't see much point in their story guide pages as the main story quests are so straightforward.

So this is probably one of the best guides out there, especially since I haven't found any 100% fan made ones as of the day I wrote this review. It's got some great build quality and the Affinity Missions are detailed nicely. The maps are also extremely useful for getting all the Collectopedia items and discovering all the locations in the game. My one and only issue is that they don't have any detail on the Normal Missions like where to find them or the items within them. For someone who's trying to 100% the game this information is crucial, and I would have loved for it to be included. Oh yeah, and for some reason the screenshots look really washed out, but maybe that's just the game and not Prima. It's also missing a glossary, but I can forgive them for that.

Very helpful. The guide provides a walkthrough of the every story mission and affinity mission, and also some of the more complex basic missions. There are also complete maps of each area, showing what tasks you must complete to survey them for Frontier Nav, and where to find every collectible. There's also a complete index of every enemy in the game, listing their stats and what materials they drop. My only gripe is that there isn't a complete list of all equipment (unless there is, and I haven't found it; it's a really big guide).

Just got this Collector's Edition strategy guide today! :) IMHO, I'm satisfied with this purchase. Whether new or used, it's still in good condition. This guide will finally help me solve some of the quests I have a hard time completing. And it's giving me my money's worth of getting great replay value for one of my favorite rpg games on Wii U!! Now I can finally catch that Blood Lobster in "Rise of the Blood Lobster"! ;) Highly recommended to fans & strategy guide enthusiasts of Xenoblade Chronicles X!!

Purchase this game guide as a surprise for my 11-year-old. He has told me time and time again that he loves the book and it has helped him complete tasks and challenges in the game. The book itself is made solid with good binding and printing.

I would buy this guide for the quick reference in the begging alone! Xenoblade Chronicles X is a very complex game and this guide helped put the game mechanics into simple and understandable terms. The remainder of the guide isn't as specific as it should be for being a guide to help players who need way-finding assistance.

This is just a bad guide. It is missing so much information and the information that is included is presented in what has to be the worst possible way imaginable.
For instance, there are a ton of missions in this game across many different mission types. Some of the most important missions are the affinity missions. You need to complete many of these to progress in the story. This guide lists these missions in a way that defies logic and makes it useless. Not in alphabetical order. Not in order of level. Not even in order of geography....and that is what is needed. These missions are spread out all over NLA and the location of where to start them obviously should have been included. It was stupid not to. And there is an index of all these missions, but it is not listed in any particular order either. Garbage. A useless guide.
The bonus soft cloth is cool and all...but whatever. It is crap compared to the bonuses that came with the Fallout 4 guide (also kind of a crappy guide) and the MGSV guides (best guide ever).
I will say that the cover of this guide is absolutely beautiful. But that just makes me wonder why all the pictures in the book look so soft around the edges.
I feel bad hating on this guide. It looks like one person wrote the whole thing and that in itself was a Hurculean effort for such a massive game. But it is what it is...and it is a useless a guide that doesn't even scratch that collector's itch.

A great visual piece for one's library, but not a useful tool for conquering the game
Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2016Verified Purchase
This is a hardcover book with a beautiful cover, but it's not useful for playing the game. The game itself is chock full of content. There is no way a book could cover it all. If you just want to beat the game, then maybe it will be useful to you. If you want help for every little quest in the game, it's not helpful at all. Use the internet in that case.

This "guide" is a £19.99 joke at my expense. A 512 page drawl which adds little to the in-game manual. Want to find a specific item? Then scan through the pages of non-alphabetic lists until you happen upon what you need. You'll probably find it on the right hand side of the 113 pages of enemy data. As the guide gives no location other than the continent, you've narrowed your search down to ~20% of a massive game world.
Or how about the multitude of quests throughout the game? The guide will happily list them all but gives little further information than the game itself.
The whole experience is like that of a 1970's accountant - you know the information is there somewhere but it's fantastically difficult to find and is no more detailed than your summary when you do.
I have been a decades long fan of Prima guides as they usually help you get the most out of your game; but on this occasion I just feel cheated.
Please, do the gaming world a favour and vote with your wallet to show that guides of this quality are not good business.

Nice... until you open it

The front and back cover of the guide are very nice, with nice artwork of the game and nothing else. It's hardback but has a nice soft touch feel to it as well.
Unfortunately, this is where the quality ends.
As highlighted by many other reviews, this is pretty much useless as a guide. Two of the best examples to illustrate this are the Normal Missions and Items listings. It provides no guidance whatsoever on how to complete the missions, and the locations provided for the many many items in this game are so vague as to be useless. I find I now just go online to help me out, and don't use this guide at all. Waste of £20.
I recently had to leave a bad review for Prima's Twilight Princess HD guide as well. That was similar to this in that the book itself was of high quality, but the content was lacking. Unfortunately I suspect this may be a new trend for Prima. I really hope they turn things around.

All in all a summary of the game, no guide. If you want to read the games content rather than play it, this is for you. If you look for strategy and tactics, look elsewhere.
