So, I'm returning this phone because it simply couldn't fit my needs. Starting with Android's version of Xiaomi: MIUI. Sure, it gives you several customizing options, but in contrast, some apps notifications just don't work. I could never get to work Twitter's notifications, no matter how many settings I changed, neither visual nor sound notifications work. Other apps like Whatsapp work fine, but sometimes you don't get notifications until you launch the app, then you get all the missing app notifications in a blast! Shame.
You can only change lockscreen wallpaper via MIUI themes application, not directly from your gallery. If you install new themes, some lockscreens included in themes are not interactive, notifications don't appear or you can't swipe them.
There's no VoLTE calls support in the United States, specifically with T-Mobile (I don't know about other carriers). There's no option to activate this.
Photos quality is alright, but I just can't believe that it takes 3-4 seconds to launch the camera app. If you want to capture a moment really fast, this is a buster. Stabilization for video is not as good as other phones.
The fingerprint scanner embedded in the screen is a good idea, but I think it's still premature. It's not as fast as a physical fingerprint scanner yet.
Sure, the phone is beautiful and size is good if you want a average phone size and hate phablets, and the AMOLED screen is also crispy and beautiful. That's why I'm giving this phone 2 stars, but as I said, I'll have to return it mainly because MIUI doesn't satisfy me and performance in general is not as good as my old phone, and honestly, I expected more considering that my old phone is 1 year and 7 months old. An octa-core and 6GBs in RAM on this phone should be enough, but taking long when opening apps, lagging when scrolling and slowing down when editing pictures or videos is really disappointing, and I'm not even a gamer.
An Android One version of this phone would be great, because I'm totally sure that MIUI is a really heavy customized Android version that is cutting off the performance of the good hardware that this phone has.
Update: Be aware if you buy this phone and you want to return it later. It's not sold directly from Xiaomi and it's not fulfilled by Amazon either. It's sold by a third-party seller and they don't tell you about the return policy before buying it. Even if you're a Prime user, they'll take off 20% of the original phone cost from your refund. Plus, you have to pay for shipping when returning it.
