The concept is great... fast reliable charging for 2 iOS devices. I bought the dock originally to use with an iPhone and an iPad (original), and for that purpose it worked great. Easy to insert both devices (even with bumper installed on the iPhone). The back docking bay (the 2.1 Amp one) comes with 2 adapters, one to accommodate iPhone sized devices and one to fit the iPad.
The problems start when I upgraded to the iPad 2. The iPad 2 is too slim for the dock. It is possible to carefully insert the iPad2 in the dock and let the connector support all the weight of the iPad, but it's very awkward and probably not good for the dock or the iPad 2. It's certainly as simply as tossing it on the dock to recharge like it was with the iPad 1.
So I called XTremeMac to inquire about an adapter for the iPad 2. The originally answer was we don't have one, check our website to see if we ever offer one. A few months later, I noticed stickers on the retail packaging announcing that "Now Supports iPad 2." So I sent another note to tech support, and this time was told an adapter was available and to call sales to order one. So I called sales only to be told that the sales line is actually Memorex (Xtreme's new parent Co) "and we don't know anything about XtremeMac products so if you don't have a part # I can't help you). So I called XtremeMac support back (because the sales line can't transfer you to the support line), and this time was told that the adapter doesn't exist. There solution (which doesn't feel very customer centric) is that I should check the website regularly to see if they ever announce a new adapter. The buttom line is, don't plan on using this product with an iPad 2, and don't count on anyone at XtremeMac caring about your experience with their product after they have your money.
This was the perfect addition to my new Apple toys.
Bottom line: a great purchase. Husband is really loving it and glad I got him this instead of the alarm clock. Easy to set up, easy to use. For some people its a negative to remove the case as some cases are more difficult to remove than others, but for us it has been no problem.

I had one of these for maybe 3 years and it was great. it stopped charging the ipad so I ordered this one...after 3 months it no longer charges the ipad. Read morePublished 7 months ago by Patricia Kascht
The iPad adapter doesn't "hold" the device properly, requiring a shim to hold it in place. Aside from that, which is probably important, it works fine.Published 10 months ago by DMG
