Product Description
The Xuron 501 Adjustable Wire Stripper is designed for stripping wire sizes from 10 to 26 AWG (American Wire Gauge)/2.59-0.405 mm in electronics, electrical, and telecommunications applications. A thumb-adjustable cam sets the stripper to the wire diameter for accurate cuts. The cutting blades are made from alloyed steel for durability, and they bypass one another for square cuts without spikes, reducing cutting effort and mechanical shock. This wire stripper has cushioned rubber handle grips and return spring for user comfort. Precision wire strippers are typically used by electricians, electromechanical technicians, or telecommunications technicians to repair or install wiring.
Xuron Corp. manufactures precision hand tools such as wire cutters and strippers, scissors, and pliers for electronics, aerospace, plastic molding, wire processing, hobby, craft, jewelry, and fishing industries. The company, headquartered in Saco, Maine, was founded in 1971.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2016This is a high quality tool. Good weight. Good ergonomic grip.
The thumb dial to set the cutting depth is very easy to use. No need for hash marks, just eyeball it.
Super sharp. It even cut the fabric insulation on high temp wire with zero fraying.
It does a great job on fine wire, too.
Take note of the model numbers. The 501's work on solid and stranded core wire.
Just used it all day, building a reflow oven. It took all the hassle out of stripping the wire ends. I really like this wire stripper and recommend it to you.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2010I'm always on the hunt for a high-quality, compact, and easy-to-use wire stripper, and I was looking forward to receiving the Xuron. I was disappointed by it, however, for a couple of reasons.
1) When stripping smaller gauges of wire the handles close together until they're almost touching at the base, which makes the tool uncomfortable and difficult to control. Only at the largest gauge setting are the handles a reasonable distance from each other when cutting, and then only just.
2) The tool doesn't have any reference markings for wire gauge. I didn't expect this -- I thought I'd be able to quickly dial in the gauge of wire I wanted to strip. No such luck; you have to eyeball it or scratch your own markings on the cam.
These factors combine to make using this tool somewhat unpleasant, and I'm returning it to Amazon.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2013I bought this stripper for small wire and I have to say that they are perfect.
Easy to adjust and really useful . Small but efficient .
They are essential in electronic and in where you need to stripper multiple wire.
Built in a simple and solid way.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2010This is the best wire stripper I've ever owned. The quality of fabrication is top-notch. The handles have great grip and shape. It is easy to use with one hand. The cam is nice and stiff and does not rotate unless you move it. The spring provides good return without being difficult to squeeze. Blades are sharp. The tool will be easy to maintain and I expect to own this forever and give it to my children some day.
The only criticism I have is Amazon's poorly chosen shipping packaging. Amazon used a giant cardboard box rather than a small padded envelope. The giant box provides inferior protection since the product can bang around inside. The giant box also consumes more material and volume.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2019Use these at work. Very versatile and convenient. Quick, no waste, and easily fits in my tool bag. Works great for small gage wire and stripping multi conductor cable.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2021I like this wire stripper except for the adjuster that makes it unusual for me. At the low end (thin wires), the jumps are too big which make the stripper either non stripping or damaging the copper wires. Sending back to Amazon.
Edit: another problem with this product is that it can't be returned via amazon standard process. Instead, the return is per-fee and required to be dropped at a post office. I wouldn't order it in the first place if I knew about this restriction.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2021Great for multiple small wires of the same size rather than positioning in the correct hole of regular wire strippers. I have many different cutters & strippers from Xuron, and I have not been disappointed for hobby electrical work.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2013The adjustable knob did not have labels for the wire size. It may have worked fine, but I wanted one that was labeled. Thus I returned it unused.

Jackson YReviewed in Canada on April 22, 20205.0 out of 5 stars A 1 level wire stripper
Shipping was incredibly quick from the USA to Canada. Right out of the package, you can tell that this is a high quality product. The build quality and workmanship really shows. I sprayed it down with Krown Rust spray to make sure they last. I had the opportunity to use them in a very tight space and these performed flawlessly. Previously my usual plier like wire strippers had difficulty being positioned in such a small space and had difficulty cleanly stripping tiny wires. This Xuron 501 quickly and cleanly stripped those tiny wires in that tight space saving me a lot of time and frustration. I highly recommend these for anyone who wants a great wire stripper. The range of adjustment alone is better than similar strippers with a more limited setting. You will not be disappointed. You will not want to use anything else again.

If you are thinking of these for miniature wiring then they are perfect. I use them on DCC decoder wire for N gauge models (zimo decoder is about 8mm long with ultra-fine wires) and they strip this wire with ease
