I also am anxiously waiting for the blu-ray. I went with a date to see this in the theater and we got thrown out because she lit a cigarette. This was my only time to see this film in widescreen. The dvd version is a terrible transfer. This has been waiting a long time for a great transfer to do justice to a wonderful film.
I agree with you, John, about being keen to see this in widescreen. I never have.
I'm not going to knock the DVD, though. At least it existed. And at the time, it was (or so I've read) how Friedkin wanted the film to be seen. Still, I'm glad Blu-ray has given it a chance to be seen in its full glory. I'm keen to really see how it compares with Clouzot's original film.
