The Hopper was built for those adventures where you just want to grab your gear and go. It’s the original 100% leakproof, ice-for-days portable cooler. And because we used materials found in things like survival suits, it’s also tough as nails. The Hopper is made in sizes to fit any adventure, whether that’s on a wild river in a kayak or a floatplane trip to a remote salmon stream.

Holds a lot - Was easily able to fit 20 lbs of ice and 30 cans of beer into this cooler
Heavy Duty Materials - Made of high quality material, with a heavy duty zipper. This cooler isn't breaking or ripping any time soon and neither are the handles or the shoulder strap.
Easy to carry - Like I said above, I have the 45 which is the largest cooler that one person could realistically carry. But you can't carry it very far without having to set it down. That's settled in as more of a long weekend/use at home cooler. This is much more portable and can easily be carried over longer distances. The handles are really nice, very sturdy, and the adjustable padded shoulder strap is great.
MOLLE straps - Haven't had a reason to use them yet but the MOLLE hookups are a nice touch.
Difficult to Load - The opening at the top of the cooler is tight, it takes some getting used to. There's a good reason why they redesigned the Hopper 2 to have the opening on the side. Once you get used to it it's fine but it does take some getting used to.
No Side Pockets - This is a minor complaint that can be easily remedied using the MOLLE straps that come on the cooler. It'd be nice to have a small pocket on the side of the cooler for bottle openers, napkins, anything really.
Ice Retention - It doesn't hold ice as well as the hard-side coolers (duh). This is an obvious one, it will keep things cold for days on end but you're going to lose the physical ice much faster than you would with a hard cooler. I'd say you lose about 75% of ice in a single day if the cooler is kept inside at room temperature. The remain ice/water/slurry is still very cold and so are the contents.
All in all this cooler has flaws, which is why they redesigned it and released the Hopper 2. It's also why you're able to get this cooler for $150-$175 instead of the regular $300+. Even with the negatives this is a no-brainer, the redesigned version is nice but I wouldn't spend an additional $200 on it. This is an absolute steal.
