So, after reading all the reviews about how this mug was marginal at keeping things hot, I basically agreed with that sentiment. BUT, I realized I had rarely used it with the lid on.
NOW, the lid is vented, but it forms a good seal. I decided to run a bit of a test and I filled the mug with hot black coffee and left it on my desk. 6 hours later it was warm, almost the perfect drinkable temp.
6 hours.
If 6 hours of keeping coffee warm for a small mug with a vented lid isn't enough for people, y'all might need to lower your standards.
It could be better...the lid could give a spill proof seal. But really, that's about it. It doesn't fit in a cup holder, but I really like the wider base when it is sitting around my desk. More stability, less of a chance of ruined electronics.
If you need a mug for the office (and not for travel to or from it) this is a solid buy.

I got this as a gift. We have a few YETI products and their reputation proceeds them, but this one was a bit of a let down.
What this Is:
This is a solid, heavy mug that will keep your hot drink warmer than average for longer than average. It has a nice wide base for stability, and the thick walls ensure that you don't get burnt simply by holding a mug with hot liquid.
I also happen to think it's a decent looking mug.
What it is not:
This is not a travel mug that will keep your drink warm for hours upon hours like a fully sealed thermos might. It is not likely to fit in most of your cup holders. It also isn't spill proof, as the lid is permanently vented.
If you need a stable mug to keep your drink a little warmer that's relatively easy to clean and you plan on using it at home or at the office but NOT in transit, this will meet your needs (albeit, at a premium price).
If you want a spill-proof, travel ready mug to have on your commute, you will be let down. I wish YETI offered this with a sealing lid with a slider or something like that. It would have moved this to at least a 4 start rating.
