Came back and opend the cooler at 10:00 am this AM and all the ice was melted.
The cooler was inside the house at about 71 degrees, don't think the keep ice for several days is going to be the case. Should have bought a $30.00 dollar cooler at
Wally World and saved about $250.00. Very poor product.
The craftsmanship gets 4 stars because right out of the box it had cosmetic blemishes I.e. Scratches and marks, but not that big of a deal.
The design is pretty nice but I liked the way the pelican looked better, it had more color options and cup holders on the top. But nevertheless the yeti hasn't let me down.
The yeti 45 is rated for a 24 can capacity with the proper amount of ice they recommend, but I was able to fit a 24 pack of beer, a 5th of jack Daniels, water, sandwiches and a 6 pack of reds apple ale (for the wife) and I had enough nice to keep everything cole for a weekend and still had some extra room. I am extremely happy with my purchase. I am a name brand w**** because I know that certain products that cost more are worth it and I did a lot of research before buying this. It's not just a cooler, it's a long term investment and all your buddy's will be jealous. YETI does a good job or branding itself, when I go to the lake or camping everyone looks at me like I'm a rockstar just because I have a yeti, I know it sounds stupid but it's true. I love popingnthe hatch on my jeep and seeing my yeti strapped down in the back, puts a smile on my face and makes me want to go fishing. Good purchase that I don't regret for a second!
To those who gave this chest a bad review for not keep ice, I have to ask, did you close the lid? I mean I can’t figure it out.
To those who gave this chest a bad review for being heavy I have to ask, did you not read the specs? How do you order something that says it weighs 10 pounds and then complain when it shows up and low and behold, it weighs 10 pounds? And guess what? If you put 12 pounds of ice and 20 pounds of food in it, it now weighs 42 pounds. The ice/food/drinks will always be the lion’s share of the weight, not the ice chest.
It is well made. You will have to tighten the drain plug to keep it from leaking as it is not one of those cheap push caps, but it made so little water that I never had to drain it. Besides, 12 pounds of ice is about 1 1/2 gallons of water. The less than 6 pounds that melted is less than 3/4 of a gallon. Not enough to flood anything, much less a car.
If all you want is something to keep t your stuff cool for an afternoon, I can see why you might be upset by the price or weight. If you need an ice chest to keep your food fresh for a week and the alternative is canned beans and hot soda, this the one for you.
This thing works. It does what the manufacturer says it does. Buy it with confidence.
****also once you fill it up with ice and figure out it doesn't work they won't let you return it because it is slightly used. You're paying for a brand name - not a better product.
