Vulnerability is a bridge to building connections. To emotion. To people. On the outside, Yield is a beginner’s guide to the world of kinky sex and BDSM lite. On the inside, Lilia Moon has crafted a journey into the deeper meaning of a Dominant/submissive (D/s) relationship – control, submission, vulnerability and connection. The sex here is a kinky side benefit not the main attraction, and that’s what it should be. BDSM at its core is about power and submission, both gifts to their respective partner. Yield, Lilia Moon’s debut into the world of BDSM, gives us a look into Damon Black (H) and Emily Madigan (h) and the hurdles they both conquer.
“My power is in control. Yours is in surrender.”
Emily Madigan has a problem. Prim and proper Emily has to plan a wedding at a BDSM sex club. What?! How does one go about that? If you’re Emily you go straight to the owner, Damon Black. Owner of said club Fettered and Seattle’s Dom d’etre, Damon is happy to give Emily a tour of the club, even if he’s a little resistant to the idea of having a wedding there.
“Like trying to throw a wedding on two weeks’ notice at a club where people tie each other up and have mad, crazy sex.”
Damon Black has a problem. Seattle’s premier Dominant is turning his club into a golden streamer ridden parlor for a wedding. After two of Damon’s club members beg to be married where they connected and fell in love he can hardly say no. Enter Emily, the buttoned up wedding planner certainly does not fit into Fettered’s lifestyle.
“She’s not nearly that in touch with herself and her needs.”
After a bit of a truce, Damon and Emily form a contract that has nothing to do with wedding plans and everything to do with pushing boundaries and emotions. Damon gets to ruffle Emily’s feathers (and other parts) with his masterful Domination and Emily gets to explore submission and D/s in a safe place. Neither plans on any long term commitment – after 25 hours it’s over.
“Because the woman I saw tonight were tied up and taking orders – and they were freer than I have any idea how to be.”
Yield is the first novel I’ve read by Ms. Moon and I enjoyed it. At times portions of the story were rather clinical in its definitions and descriptions of the BDSM lifestyle; however, I believe this will smooth out as the series builds and Ms. Moon’s grip on her world solidifies. The clear focus on the emotional building blocks of the D/s relationship between Damon and Emily was refreshing to see. This novel, while not short on sexy times, very much focuses on the control and trust a Dominant and Submissive build. While I also felt the ending was a bit abrupt, I appreciated the Epilogue that tied up the loose ends of the story.
“We care about honesty, about finding edges, about being all of who we can be without shame and without hiding.”
Little peeks of Damon’s Fettered members and Emily’s wedding coordination team provided spots of insight and humor – along with what are sure to be future story lines.
All in all I enjoyed my introduction to Fettered and book 1 – Yield. I look forward to meeting the next D/s couple, I’ll be waiting in the lounge with Quint, sipping something icy and fruity.
“There’s a big difference between wanting to be spanked and bending over the bench.”
K’s Category: 1st date, first novel read by author to date.
Sex: Yes, descriptive – come on it’s BDSM
HEA: More of HFN with more to follow
Standalone: Yes, as it’s the first in the series
"I don’t know Damon at all— and yet I do. I know he watches me like the world depends on it. I know he’s sure of himself bordering on arrogant and that he’s quick to admit when he’s wrong. He laughs at himself easily and overflows with tenderness and loves to cuddle and knows exactly how to fit my body to his even when he’s asleep. I know he’s wild, fierce, passionate, demanding, and generous in ways I’ve just begun to see. I want to see more. I want a chance to get to know all of Damon Black and I want him to get to know more of me."
The author speaks of him through Emily's late night musings.
This book is like one long sexy erotic love scene. On display is the breathless beauty of the genuinely Dominant male and his controlled passion, the responsibility he feels to his partner to mention nothing of the devotion he feels to one who is beloved. Emily is like wholesome sunshine and a ripe strawberry. The meeting of these two worlds is exciting and interesting in the negotiations.
Many macho manly men who think they are God's gift to woman would do well to read this book and understand how a true Master Dominant man holds power over his partner, his woman. It is joyfully freely lovingly excitedly given with adoring trust. This power exchange takes them both to places some only dare to dream about.
Phew, got that off my chest. Really this book has some incredible "scene" writing, have a broad mind going in (it's only fiction), learn and you will enjoy.
"The pieces of Emily Madigan shatter and I go with them, absolutely sure I can do this. Absolutely certain he will catch me. I am a million molecules of fire and starfall because he believes I can be."
Beautiful writing, yes?
All books in the Fettered series are stand-alone, COMPLETE books with no annoying cliffhangers at the end so you have to buy the next 7 or 8 “books” to read the full story. Fettered is free to Kindle Unlimited members, but I would have gladly paid for these books! Lots of steamy (hot!) scenes but unlike many of the free books, these are beautifully written and unique to the characters, not just repetitive graphic content. The proofreading is professionally done so you don’t find an incorrect character name for three or four pages and you’re wondering where this character came from or words are misspelled so badly, the meaning is lost. None of that in Fettered. If you don’t fall in love with these characters, I’ll eat my Unlimited membership! The books are free, so there’s nothing to lose and you’ll be so happy with Book 1, I know you’ll read the whole series. You can thank me later.
