About the Author
Chris Yoder first became interested in the history of his family when reading his great-grandfather's copy of Decendants of Jacob Hochstetler, learning about the Indian massacre of 1757, and his several years of captivity. While Chris and his wife lived near Harrisburg, PA in the early 1970s, he had the opportunity to visit the State Library and Archives and to begin to collect information about his early Yoder ancestors. He first put together a small genealogy for his family in conjunction with the 1976 Bi-Centennial. In the early 1980s, his family moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, and he started to correspond with Yoder historian Rachel Kreider, who was descended from two sisters of his own great-great grandfather. Rachel introduced him to Ben Yoder of Goshen, IN, a retired school principal who shared his interest in the Yoder family. One day in the spring of 1983, the three of them sat around a kitchen table at Rachel's home and composed the first newsletter. A lover of mysteries and puzzles, Chris enjoys this never-ending search for clues and he especially enjoys being able to help people unlock the mysteries of their own ancestry.
