For Sweaty Yoga Only

If you practice vinyasa flow or some other non-sweaty yoga, this mat isn't for you. I mistakenly purchased it hoping for a sticky, non-slip mat for my regular practice and will have to return it. It's great for hot yoga, though - this mat was designed to be sticky when wet and it's beautiful. I recommend it to all those who do hot yoga.

Side note: The mat is made of polyester, so your footprints and handprints remain on the surface until the mat is wiped down. Just something to keep in mind.

Super pretty and soft, doesn’t grip at all...

It’s a gorgeous mat, I’ll give it that. -but unfortunately it doesn’t deliver at all on being the grippy mat designed for hot yoga that it promised to be (which is why I bought it). I intitially got it as a gift for someone who sweats a lot in hot yoga and was looking for a super grippy mat designed to be sweat on. She was immediately disappointed by how slippery it was so I reached out to customer support who said that the mat has a saturation point and can only take so much and that I should try washing it to activate the “grippiness”. Sure, why not. We tried that and it still was slipping all over the place so we gave up and I decided to use it myself since I don’t sweat that much. Maybe my friend just sweats way too much lol. Unfortunately I also slid all over the place on this mat even though I’m not sweating as much. I’ve tried getting it a little wet first, I’ve tried not getting it wet, washing it again, nothing helps. Super disappointing and honestly starting to make me form bad habits since I can’t trust it to stick. Customer support told me I could return it before 30 days, but between the initial person I gave this as a gift to trying it out and me giving them the benefit of the doubt and trying it as well the return window closed and I’m now stuck with a mat that doesn’t work. Maybe I got a weird defective one, but my experience has been a huge bummer. Customer support made me feel like either I was lying, doing something wrong or like sweat an unreasonable amount, which in any of those cases is a terrible customer service experience.

UPDATE 9/17/16: I've hand-washed the mat a few times now. Each time after wash, it's become more and more slip-free! Still very happy with this product, it's been a hot summer but I've been able to practice comfortably on this mat.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I was so excited to receive this mat. I have been looking for a better quality mat than what I have now that a.) won't send me slippin' and slidin' and b.) won't break the bank. This one fit the bill. When I first received the mat, I didn't bother spraying with water because it only takes 2 minutes of movements for my body to start generating heat. Not to mention, I live in Florida. I've used it in full 60-75 minute classes with and without spraying with water, and both times worked great! I wouldn't say it's 100% slip-free...but the slippage is definitely GREATLY reduced. I think my palms are just helpless and will slip more than my feet. With that said, I think a little, just A LITTLE slippage is okay because it makes you pay attention to muscles you need to use to stabilize yourself. It really does work better the more you sweat. Overall I am really pleased with this mat! :)

Nice mat, but I still slip a little

Overall, I am really happy with this mat. I am a beginner to yoga, and had been using the mats available at the place I am taking classes. My hands and feet were slipping a lot, so I started looking for solutions. I purchased this mat because one side is covered in fabric that is meant to provide better grip, even when your hands and feet get sweaty. I have found that this mat does help reduce that problem a lot, but I still slip a little. The mat seems to be high quality and it comes with a carrying strap that is really convenient, but it is also heavier than I expected.

Great non-toxic yoga mat

I wanted a mat that was not made of petroleum based products, which is hard to find. I'm relatively new to yoga and this is only my second mat, but it has exceeded my expectations. I bring a spray bottle filled with water to my classes and spray a fine line where my hands and feet will be placed during downward facing dog, and there's no slipping. It's one small step more than just rolling out your mat, but for me, having a mat that isn't chemical based is worth it to me. It's aesthetically pleasing, too. I love that it comes with a strap, which for me, can double as a yoga strap for moves that require one.

I used the same Yogi Toes yoga towel for ten years but after my recent foray into hot yoga I decided that it was time to upgrade. I knew that this was the type of towel I wanted, but I took a risk on this particular brand. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and I love it. I have the travel version, and will be folding it up and bringing it to Europe with me next week. I must mention as well that it's totally gorgeous, and although this technically should not matter, it makes me happy to get on my mat. It also doesn't smell like rubber, which was a worry.

I was debating between this mat and the Gaiam Sol Dry-Grip. This mat won me over because of the print and the eco-friendly material. I love how this print is called "Breathe." It is so soothing to look at, and to be on. In particular, I also like how the skyline helps divide up my mat- I like having placeholders to line up my feet or sitz bones.

I am currently using this mat for all types of yoga. I tried out my first couple of classes with no extra padding, and I missed having a little extra cushion. I'm a bony person, so I wasn't entirely comfortable with just the combo mat against the floor. During last night's class, I decided to place my old mat underneath, and I was much more comfortable.

I didn't find the material to be too slippery during its first use. I love how silky it is so I can glide easily to the top or bottom of my mat. I also love being able to see my body's outline, especially after savasana. I have found that foot stains from my bare feet are visible, but I anticipated that with the pastel colors.

Overall, I adore this mat. It is super absorbent and it makes me happy.
