I have used it has a learning tool to teach junior crew members. I believe all interior crew should be required to read this guide. Both insightful and enjoyable, it is a platform for private service. This information is transferable from yachting to private estates to boutique inns. Anyone looking to learn the art of service will be pleased with this book. Alene has infused her words with elegance and poise. I raise my glass to her.

Relevant, but missing a few things.

While this book is full of useful information, I personally found it was missing a few things. I was hoping for more of a description of the day-to-day life of a steward/ess, that I could present to newbies and also refresh my own memory a bit. I think it could be improved by adding more detail about actually being a steward/ess, including his or her roles and responsibilities in the crew and a bit more detail on guest service, set ups, and interactions. Even some general breakfast/lunch/dinner setups would be helpful, as well as general examples for lists like pre-guest arrival, provisions lists, things like that. Or even a list of what to pack before leaving home for a new steward/ess off on his or her adventure to walk the docks. I know it is boat and guest specific, but I think that could be really helpful to new crew who might not be as well versed in fine dining and five star hotels. I also found it a bit out of date, with no information on topics like using technology to help with inventories, music, and movies. That being said, it did have good information that will always be useful, I just think there are more topics to expand on.

Don't even hesitate in buying this! I bought this book for my 22 year old daughter who is soon to begin training to be a superyacht stew. I am so glad I did, as it is chock full of information and guidance on how to go about this complex job of being a stewardess, from the absolute basics to more complex tasks, and I think it will be Really helpful for anyone entering this career. It is written by Alene Keenan, who has many years of experience in the industry, and is highly knowledgeable about all aspects of what is required on board for interior crew. It is well written, and very easy to read, and I was glued to the pages for most of the book.....I wish I could turn back the clock 40 years....because I want to be a yacht stew too!!
