Heavy Duty Straps are easy to tighten and lock - and they stay locked
I've owned these over a year now and I've been very pleased with them. I had to purchase a second pair of these straps so I could carry 4 kayaks using our Yakima KayakStackers (the KayakStackers ship with only 1 pair). These 16' straps are heavy duty and do work great. They hold 4 kayaks no problem and 3 of ours are 50 pounds 13' long each. The straps are easy to tighten and lock - and they stay locked - at highway speeds as well as curving 2 lane roads I've never had any problems. The soft rubber buckle covers do work well and do protect your vehicles paint especially as you are initially putting the straps on and pulling the slack to correct length. I can see as other reviewers have pointed out they could break over time. In a year of use one of our covers has cracked but it still works fine.

I had to buy these, last year I purchased the Yakima kayak rack for my suv and these straps came with it. My daughter was using tie downs she had purchased at a big box store. When she saw how well these worked I was forced to buy her some. These are awsome, they are thicker then the tie downs I had plus they feel like they have a rubber type coating so they hang on well, but the best part is how easy they are to put on and take off. The latching system is super simple to use and fast but they do not slip at all, not even a bit until you push and hold the release then there is no sticking or jamming, they just come right off

Love these straps. Bought originally for my kayak, now I use them all the time to secure any light loads on my truck. MUCH easier to use than ratchet straps. Some old reviews mentioned the rubber cover can tear, I had a set of older ones and could see the possible problem. Yakima must have improved the type of rubber - the new ones I got Sept 2020 are better, I doubt tearing will be an issue.

While I absolutely love my Malone Downloader kayak racks, the straps that came with them left something to be desired. While functional, they only had limited protection for my car (a small piece of naugahyde on the back of the buckle that is useless if the buckle spins - and they do spin around when you are loading the kayak). These Yakima straps are on a completely different level. The strap material is MUCH more substantial feeling, the longer length makes cinching down the straps easier (and means I can carry just about anything I could imagine on my roof rack) and the rubber boot completely surrounds the buckle so I don't have to worry about it scratching the car. These are one of the best "upgrades" I have made to my car topping setup.

These Yakima straps are by far the best kayak straps out there. The rubber cover on the buckle gives you piece of bind as you fling the strap over the top of your car. Be sure to cut your strap down to size after fitting it for your boat. The first time I did not due this and the wrapper up strap came undone and got caught under a car tire while moving. Between the kayak, car roof, and strap - the kayak one, the car came in second with a nice dent on the roof's edge, and the strap came in last after in finally snapped from the force. Just cut the strap at a 45 degree angle with scissors and singe the edge with a lighter. You can't tell the difference from the factory edge and my homemade edge.

These are great for quickly straping down light to moderate loads. I use them for surfboards. Long straps, I've strapped down up to four short boards in board bags with plenty of room for more. The buckles hold solid with no slippage. The rubber vovers keep the buckles from chipping/scratching the paint. Only complaint, the rubber coating for the buckles are kind of cheap and sit loosely over the buckles. A big improvement would be to have the buckles truly coated in plastic not covered.
Bottomline: For surfboards, canoes, etc... they are quick, easy, and can accommodate a large (not heavy) load. Quality if fair but could be better. Still, the best I have found so far.

We bought these straps to replace the ones that came with our kayak roof mount. We were disappointed that we had to replace a strap withing 6 months of having the roof rack but we were happy to find almost exact replacements. We love the rubber coating on the end, so there's no chance of scratching the car. The threading in the buckle is tough and with plenty of grip. We would definitely buy these again if needed.

Held my 15 foot canoe secure on the roof rack at highway speeds from Virginia to Florida without needing adjustment or tightening. Exceedingly easy to use, tighten and remove. They are long and strong.
