StoryYakuza Kiwami 2 is a sequel to the critically acclaimed Yakuza, following the journey of Kazuma Kiryu as he attempts to distance himself from the criminal underworld he was raised in. Ten years later, Yakuza Kiwami 2 brings that world to the PlayStation4, completely rebuilt from the ground-up. In the tradition of 2017's Yakuza Kiwami, the envelope is pushed to the extreme, using the all-new Dragon Engine to update one of the series' stand-out titles into a modern classic. |
PrologueKazuma Kiryu thought his Tojo Clan days were behind him. He and his young ward, Haruka Sawamura, have built a peaceful life from the ashes of conflict. All it took was a single gunshot to shatter that peace. Yukio Terada, the fifth chairman of the Tojo Clan, has been assassinated. With war on the horizon, the legendary Dragon of Dojima is pulled back into the world he wanted to leave behind. |
Two Cities, Bustling With lifeStep into the glitzy nightlife of Kamurocho, with its endless array of restaurants, bars, and activities, and journey west to Sotenbori, Osaka, Japan's other paradise of the night, newly recreated in the Dragon Engine to stunning effect. |
Product description
"In Yakuza Kiwami 2, Kiryu finds himself back on the front lines of a potential all-out war. One of the most beloved storylines in the franchise's history, remade in full HD for the PS4, Yakuza Kiwami 2 will come in an elaborate SteelBook featuring Kiryu and his fierce rival, the Dragon of Kansai, Ryuji Goda. While supplies last.
SEGA proudly presents Yakuza Kiwami 2, one of the most beloved story lines in the franchise’s history, remade in full HD for the PlayStation 4.
One year after the 10 billion yen incident, Kazuma Kiryu begins to build a peaceful life with Haruka Sawamura. Tearing him away, an assassination threatens to erupt in an all-out war between the Tojo Clan and the Omi Alliance. Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima, must travel to Sotenbori, Osaka in an attempt to broker peace between the rival clans, but Ryuji Goda, known as the Dragon of Kansai, will stop at nothing to get his war. In this world, there can only be one dragon.
Game Features:
• Dragons Belong on the Dragon Engine - Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a re-creation of the original Yakuza 2, completely rebuilt in the Dragon Engine, the same engine used in developing Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, which means you'll be able to experience gorgeous graphics on top of enjoying seamless transitions (no loading screens!) between battles or when entering or leaving buildings. Voice lines and cutscenes have been re-recorded to be as true to the original as possible, while reaping the benefits of the most powerful engine the Yakuza series has ever seen.
• Big Hits, Mini Games - Kiryu hasn't let his time away from the front lines dull his skills in combat or leisure. Pull off a wide variety of brutal (and hilarious) Heat Actions, and challenge new mini-games such as Golf Bingo, the original arcade release of Virtual-On, the return of Yakuza 0’s much-celebrated Cabaret (including the return of fan-favorite Yuki!), Majima's revamped Clan Creator, and even SEGA's infamous Toylets!
• Unveil the Truth of Majima Goro - This time around, Kiryu isn't the only one running the show - fans of the Mad Dog of Shimano won't want to miss this new Majima-centric campaign, which features Majima as a playable character, complete with his trusty dagger, and sheds light on his personal journey from the end of Yakuza Kiwami up to Yakuza Kiwami 2.
• Extreme Localization – We’ve gone through the Yakuza Kiwami 2 script with a fine-toothed comb; every effort has been made to ensure that it's the most faithful representation of the original Japanese. SEGA is committed to supporting the best Yakuza experience possible for the series' dedicated fans around the world."

Well, Kamurocho is cool and all and I dug Onomichi and all it's fisherman citizen, but Sega has really put the most fun to be had so far in Sotenbori, which is the on the other side of Japan than Kamurocho. The activities are literally bursting out of the seams at you, from new things to do such as golfing and Toylets, to returning classics from the fan fave Yakuza 0 in the form of Cabaret Club Showdowns among many other familiar going on's. And, to add the proverbial cherry on top of this sweet gaming dream, is the fact that Sega decided to yet again involve Goro Majima and allow players to once again play as him. I mean this is by far the most complete and filled Yakuza experience to come to PS4 to date, so I hope Sega changes their minds and choose to involve as much time and effort to make the already confirmed Yakuza 3 into more than just a mere up-haul in graphics. Please, Sega make this the definitive formula to base the rest of the awesome series on!!! Tons of content!!
Yakuza 6 was new and improved in every way except combat. In 6 it was extremely stripped down from what fans got to experience with multiple fighting styles in Yakuza 0, and because of this the overall experience suffered a little. Kiwami 2 manages to improve the combat by adding a decent amount of new heat moves and re-introducing melee weapons while also making extreme heat easier to control.
Ultimately Yakuza Kiwami 2 managed to be more fun than Yakuza 6, taking a classic story and giving it a new life with subtle improvements to the gameplay introduced in Kiryu’s final adventure.
Also the steelbook is absolutely gorgeous.
If you never played the first one, don’t worry. The opening of the game lets you see what happened as the main character Kiryu remembers at the graveyard (spoilers). The game does hold your hand a bit, in the opening but soon you’re off to the races. Between the sub stories, mini games, and other things you can easily spend over 10 hours playing the game. It should be noted that there are a few perv things in the game, but it’s a running gag in the series and it’s completely optional to do.
