Yakuza Remastered Collection - Day 1 Edition - PlayStation 4
- The Yakuza Remastered Collection is far from a typical console generation port. In addition to graphical and performance upgrades (720p>1080p at 30>60fps), all three games have gone through a rigorous re-localization process.
- The English scripts for each game have been reviewed, revised, and even rewritten in some cases, and content previously cut from the Western releases of Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 have been re-added in The Yakuza Remastered Collection.
- The Yakuza Remastered Collection brings the final missing chapters in Kiryu’s story to the PlayStation 4. From Yakuza 0 to Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, players can now experience the full story of The Dragon of Dojima, all on a single platform.
- Missing content from the original Western releases has been re-added to the remastered versions, and the full English scripts have been reviewed, revised, and had portions rewritten for accuracy alongside the original Japanese releases.
- Day One Edition contains Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, & Yakuza 5 on two disks in a striking red collectible case, emblazoned with Kiryu’s trademark dragon tattoo. While supplies last.

As for the review? Well if you played Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2, and Yakuza 6 then you already know what to expect.... A masterpiece.
These are simple remasters with slightly improved graphics and the gameplay untouched.
This comes with a Slipcover that contains
1. A collectible PS3 case of yakuza 5
2. A digipannel of Yakuza 3-4 and Yakuza 5
Unfourntly no steelbook for this edition.
Nothing more to say, if you got the other 4 Yakuza games already then you need to get this to complete the collection.
This should keep you well more than enough entertainment until Yakuza 7 releases in the states.

the good news is the game. I don't understand the useless PS3 Yakuza 5 case.
Its like someone in the department went hey we got a bunch of unused yakuza 5 ps3 cases.
the only redeeming fact is the games came in the box.
What you get: Yakuza games 3 through 6. That's it. Games 3, 4, and 5 were remastered as they were originally released on PS3.
The games (5/5): The Yakuza games are a blend of genres and styles. Each game has a super-serious main story about Kazuma Kiryu, a (sometimes-) retired Yakuza boss. When you meet him in Yakuza 3, Kiryu is running an orphanage since he himself grew up in one. The orphanage is on Okinawa, and it turns out that there's a plot from mainland Japan to buy up Okinawan land. This puts Kiryu back in the action, just like in all the other games so far. In between these Yakuza story missions, there's a variety of substories. You'll see everything from Kiryu learning English to land a date, to saving stray cats, to busting peeping toms. These substories range from heartwrenching (survivors of the war searching for lost memories) to hilarious (the English lessons didn't translate well). There's also a ton of minigames, from fishing to bowling. Did I mention there are various collection aspects, making it a big challenge to 100% the game? And that's just the 3rd game! There's 3 more to go! If you love open-world games with RPG elements, Yakuza is a riot.
The packaging (3/5): Games 3, 4, and 5 are in a pretty basic cardboard case. The name isn't even on the front, just a dragon design. Game 6 is in its retail box, so it doesn't even match the rest. Overall this set doesn't look great on a shelf since it's mismatched. It seems thrown together. You'll mostly just want to install the games on your hard drive, and only pull out the disks when you're playing a specific game.
The ports (4/5): I'm sure improvements were made to graphics thanks to the PS4's horsepower, but these are mostly open-world games based on PS3 titles so the graphics aren't the point. The facial animations do tend to be top-notch in the rendered cutscenes. A lot of controversy happened because parts of the game were cut or censored for the American audience. There are warning before the game that the politics, especially discussions of gender, date all the way back to the far-off era of 2010. According to certain people today, the absolute barbarians of that bygone era must be censored for the good of right-thinking people today. Obviously this is stupid. New players aren't going to notice much in terms of missing content. The games are still loaded with plenty to do, and the cut bits are almost universally side stories that don't affect the main game in any noticeable way. I'm still going to take off a star because of the cut content - this was a great opportunity or American fans to see a Japanese game they had missed (especially with the release / remasters of 0, 1, and 2). It's a shame they'll miss that content as it was originally presented.
Overall: A collection of four 5/5 games in a 4/5 package. Once you've installed the games on your hard drive and forgotten about the cut content, the actual flow of the games is perfect. I'd encourage everyone to pick up this set immediately, unless you can manage to find the original copies with all their parts intact.

Whats to say? Its yakuza? You punch people and help old ladies with their problems
Yakuza 3-5 remastered at a sexy sexy 60 FPS and a better resolution
Cut content from 3 is put back into the game, and a better translation has be put in from the ground up!
The ONLY bad thing is,I thought the case was going to be a steel case like Kiwami 1 and 2,but it is just cardboard* it still looks nice*

My only let down to be honest was the packaging... I was hoping this would be a steel case like 1 and 2 were so the collection would look good together... But that's just a minor detail really. Still a great price for 3 amazing games!

Yakuza 3: Probably my favorite in the series, it's a nice change of pace with most of the story taking place in Okinawa, the story is engaging and a bit more varied thanks to some nice character developpment for Kyriu and Haruka and the battle system is more of a legit challenge compared to zero and both kiwamis which had very easy combat.
Yakuza 4: While the story is excellent and comes together nicely at the end, having four different characters to level up isn't fun. The story also takes a while to gel since it's based on 4 substories that feel disconected until the end. Still pretty good.
Yakuza 5: Where do I even start. Basically the first chapter with Kyriu is great no complaints there. But then the second chapter is a unsufferable and convoluted filler arc involving hours of boring prison dialogue, a pointless mountain village segment completely irrelevant to the story and then being stuck in the worst designed city of the series, a city where you can't walk on the streets and have to stay on the sidewalks getting ambushed in encounters every five steps. Then chapter 3 is an extremely repetitive collection of dumbed down project Diva style rythm games that are so easy there is no fun at all playing since you can't really lose or even get close to loosing. The story is again completely irrelevant and you start to realize how much pointless cutsenes and dialogue there is in this game. Unless you skip them be prepared for 50 minutes of tepid exposition dialogue and cutscene for every 10 minutes of gameplay. Yakuza games often have long cutscene but usually they are there to tell a griping story and not there to serve as padding filler substories. Had to put the game down there and not looking forward trying to finish it.

3&4 are in the same disk and are very quick to install. 5 is in its own disk and can be put in the bonus Y5 ps3 case if you like.
Unfortunately I am disappointed in the packaging. After the phenomenal releases of Kiwami 1&2 and the gorgeous steelbooks, I was expecting something special for this "red collector case". From the advertisement it looked like it could have been either a pleather or rubberized finish (like the Yakuza 6 Essence of Art edition). Unfortunately, it is just cardboard with a standard glossy finish. It looks okay on the shelf but does leave a lot to be desired. It would have been a far better idea to pass on the bonus ps3 case for Yakuza 5 and instead put the money into a multi disk steel book. Alas! Massive missed opportunity.
