AVENTAGE is a dramatic, inspired leap forward in audio/video component design. AVENTAGE brings studio grade sound and sophisticated video enhancements to your home with unparalleled attention to detail in design, engineering, and fabrication. We rethought every electrical path, every part, every piece, and every material to maximize performance. Details that at first glance would not seem to affect the quality of sight, sound, and control, when brought together in an AVENTAGE component, produce a work of visual and acoustic art.

In addition to an innovative new construction design, the RX-A700 A/V Receiver supports 3D and Audio Return channel over 6 in/1 out HDMI, new GUI with overlay on HD and 3D sources, CINEMA DSP 3D surround sound, RS-232C interface for custom installation, and Control4® certification.

A Unique Approach to Enhanced Performance

Enhanced Stability: Double Bottom Construction and a Specially Designed 5th Foot (A.R.T. Wedge)
The RX-A700 fifth foot
A specially designed fifth foot adds even more stability to reduce vibration

Strong stability in an amplifier design reduces noise and jitter in your digital signal for clearer audio and video. High-grade, heavier terminals reduce vibration at the speaker connections. An additional bottom cover contributes extra support at higher volume levels for the power transformer and heat sinks. And the specially-designed fifth foot at the center of the amplifier--an Anti-Resonance Technology (A.R.T.) Wedge--improves overall structural rigidity and reduces vibration, resulting in a more stable signal and sound improvement.

Enhanced Power: Low Jitter Circuitry

Built-in Low Jitter circuitry reduces jitter from digital sources, including HDMI, using a more precise timing control--so you can be sure of a stable audio/video signal, resulting in perfectly reproduced images and sound.

A hybrid power supply makes the AVENTAGE series even more efficient. Independent power supplies for the digital and analog circuit results in less power consumption in standby mode, and a more efficient power transformer--so despite the power of the RX-A700, it could cost you less to run.

Enhanced GUI

Enhanced Control: New GUI and RS-232 for Custom Installation

The RX-A700 features many ways to control your media. A new full-color GUI with support for album art lets you browse movies, music, and settings on your HDTV. An RS-232C port lets the RX-A700 integrate easily with any custom home theater installation. Control4® certification provides effortless entertainment, comfort, convenience and peace of mind with one of the most popular home automation platforms.

Need more connection options? This receiver is SIRIUS Satellite Radio-ready for even more music (subscription required). Or expand further with optional accessories like the Yamaha YDS-12 Universal Dock for iPod or the Yamaha YBA-10 Bluetooth Wireless Audio Receiver (sold separately).

The improved GUI lets you control your home entertainment system and adjust settings simply. Its updated, intuitive interface features an HD overlay, so you can call the menu and it will appear unintrusively for quick commands--without interrupting or switching from whatever's playing onscreen.

The Latest HDMI Features and High-Definiton Audio Decoders for a Cinematic Experience

With seven channels and 630 watts of powerful surround sound (90W x 7 RMS), you can immerse yourself in your favorite movies and music. The latest HD Audio format decoding such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio render soundtracks in lifelike detail. The latest HDMI support brings features like Deep Color (30/36 bit), x.v.Color, 24Hz refresh rate capability, and Auto Lip-Sync compensation. And with 6 1080p-compatible HDMI inputs (including 1 front) and 1 HDMI output, the RX-A700 has room and power to spare for all your high-definition home entertainment gear.

Exclusive Yamaha Features for Surround Realism

Yamaha CINEMA DSP is an advanced exclusive technology for creating richly realized independent sound fields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects ideally located in these separate sound fields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and startlingly realistic presence. 17 CINEMA DSP 3D settings let you customize the effect for your room. Adaptive DSP Level evaluates the difference between the volume level and a reference level, adjusting the DSP level to ensure optimum effectiveness, so you'll experience cinema-quality audio even at lower volumes.

CINEMA DSP's decoding technology also takes advantage of Yamaha's Compressed Music Enhancer, so you can enjoy your digital music library on your home theater system without sacrificing audio quality.

SCENE buttons lets you simplify your home theater settings. Pressing a single SCENE button automatically launches multiple operations to make your devices work together--no more fumbling with the remote control. The front panel SCENE buttons are initially set to default settings for DVD Viewing, Disc Listening, TV Viewing and Radio Listening, but can be customized to whatever you need.

Yamaha™'s YPAO system uses a small microphone (included) and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First, it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters, such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers and even the sound pressure level until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room--and you don't have to do anything.

I've owned a Yamaha RX-V2095 for the past 12 years. Weighing in at 45 lbs it's an understatement that it has some power. The only thing it lacked was HDMI capability, which is why I upgraded to the RX-A700. The sound fields are more precise with having the 7.1 surround. Memo to those of you upgrading, this unit has a built in secondary amp for zone 2 (too cool). But be aware you can only play analog signals through zone 2, so be sure to hook up the analog cables along with all the HDMI ones. That was fun figuring out! The YPAO feature is awesome. It's a tiny microphone that plugs into the front of the amp and it automatically sets the level of your speakers based on where they are placed. The process takes about 3 minutes and is very high tech. Adjusting the levels yourself is fun with the cool interactive menu's in this new model. The remote seems too simple when you first start using it, but when you figure out the ease and user friendly menu system built in, it makes you even more satisfied with the product. The models above this one are the A800, 1000 and 3000. The only difference is a little more power and more [outdated] hookups like s-video and analogs.

Another great feature is the 12 pin hookup for the optional Ipod cradle specifically made for this model. The cradle is about 90 bucks (yds-12) and has great on screen capability with up to date ipods (3rd gen I-touch). You can even watch the digital movies on your you TV with this thing.

All in all, this is a great buy. I will miss my old receiver, but this one is a no brainer, especially for Yamaha enthusiasts. Hope this helps.

Real easy to set up if you have hdmi. Sounds great after using the mic. check it with my slp meter and it was right on, didnt have to tweak it. Great price when newegg gave an ipod touch 4th gen. with it how can you wrong with that. shipped fast. The on screen GUI is great easy to use.

Cons: I would have gave this unit 5 stars if it was shipped with updated firmware. It had 1.05 installed on the unit. With that on it, it would not pass the 3D signal through the unit. You would think that this unit as advertised would be able to send a 3D signal right out of the box but it won't. You have to go to Yamaha and down load the new firmware then burn it to a cd (do not use windows media center it will burn the cd but the receiver will not install the firmware at the end) use iTunes or another software to burn the cd. Then after that, you will have to find a dvd player or a cd player that will play the wave file that does not have a internal filters that degrades the file to unusable. I had to use 4 different players before I got one that worked. It was a borrowed player from a friend ( a OPPO dvd player high end) the file is 14 min. 11 sec after that it worked fine. But it came with a free Ipod so the extra hoops I had to jump through was worth it.

Other Thoughts: If your lucky you will get one with the correct firmware. But if you dont good luck in updating it. It took me 4 days to do it. Even though its only a 20 min. process.

    Verified Purchase
After reading reviews and doing some research I finally settled on the Yamaha RX-V667 as my receiver of choice. I noticed that Amazon had the RX-A700, which is esentially the same device as the RX-V667 just with better build quality and better warranty, for about $30 cheaper so purchasing the RX-A700 was a no brainer. Setup and speaker calibration was a breeze, I am using this receiver to drive polk speakers in a 5.1 setup (BIC F12 sub) using the back surround connections to bi-amp my front tower speakers. Have to say everything sounds great so far...still breaking in my speakers but sound quality is good as is. Currently not using zone 2 so I can't speak to other reviewers issues regarding this. Receiver came installed with the latest firmware version out of the box so no issues there either. All in all very happy with my purchase so far.

I just got a new RX-A700 after the amp on my five year old Denon blew this weekend. I won't bother to restate what others have already said, other than this is a great receiver (and SOOO much easier to set up than the Denon...which despite being pretty tech savy I never did completely figure that monster out). Two small quibbles though:

    1. The Zone 2 speaker connectors are the old spring-loaded clip kind - like you would find on a really cheap all-in-one home theater box. The main speaker connectors are banana plug style like they should be, only the Zone 2 connectors are spring-clips. To make matters worse, they are sized for wires no larger than 16 ga., so when I took the banana plugs off my 12 ga. speaker wires from the outdoor speakers, I couldn't fit the wires in the connectors! I will get around to getting some pin connectors eventually, but I really don't understand why Yamaha would use such a cheap part on their premiere receiver line (the A800 and above do have banana clip connectors).

    2. This is NOT the fault of the RX-A700, but beware that some Motorola cable boxes (DCX-3400 in my case) do not play nice with the pass-through HDMI connection. The box resets from 1080i to 720p every time it is turned on due to a handshaking issue. This is a Mototola problem, not a Yamaha problem, but just be aware if like me you were looking forward to the pass-through feature only to discover that you can't run your cable box through the Yamaha.

Other than that, I love this thing. Great receiver - and the onscreen menus are outstanding!
