Things I love:
-It’s really good for beginners like me and even for professionals. It has a lot of functions (which I haven’t used and explored) like it comes with 554 different sounds, you can record your music, etc.
-it comes with free 2-month Piano tutorial that you have to sign up. It says it’s like a class setting where you will be talking/interacting with a Piano teacher online via video chat, which I haven’t tried and probably won’t use just because I don’t like the idea of video chatting with someone. But if you’re teaching yourself like me, I highly recommend using “Simply Piano” app, I signed up for a year (I think I paid like 119$, which is reasonable) and it’s been helpful and I’ve been watching YouTube tutorials and read books for beginners.
If you’re young or a parent who has a child who loves music, try to develop it while they’re young because they’ll learn faster. I am old, but you’re never too old to learn something new. I also play different instruments like guitar, ukelele, flute and violin but I’d say learning the piano is the most challenging one. But I was very inspired by one famous Pianist who said that “learning an instrument is about 95% practice and 5% talent”.
-it comes with a chair, stand, power adapter and a pedal. I haven’t used the pedal yet because it doesn’t match when I tried to hook it up. I think you have to buy a chord or a jock that would fit.
-this piano is quite heavy and you can’t bring it to gig or some other place if you want to use it while you’re travelling by yourself. So if you’re going to unbox and assemble it yourself, it’ll be hard, I did it all by myself so it’s stil possible but it just wasn’t a piece of cake. So ask someone to help you out.
I don’t have any negative thing to say about this yet because I’m loving it. But I’ll keep you posted if something comes up.
The piano sounds amazing. Great selection of styles and music to play along with. Most of the voices sound spot-on. The ability to record audio directly to a USB thumb drive is definitely a huge plus as well. The overall quality of the stand and interface buttons is top-notch.
However, the quality of the keyboard keys and mechanisms themselves is NOT good. After only a few months of gentle playing (I do not pound on the keys at all), there is a very loud and distracting "rattle" sound coming from within the keys. Upon releasing any key, I can hear the mechanism inside (probably the weighting system) rattling and settling back into place. This is very noticeable over the music not just for myself, but for others in the room as well. Even when playing with headphones on, I can hear the keys quite easily over the music.
The second issue is that the speakers seem to be dying already as the volume keeps dropping the more I play (again, I am gentle with the instrument and do not blast it very high). I now need to set the volume dial at around 75% for it to be easy to listen too (especially with the aforementioned issue with the keyboard keys).
Perhaps I received a defective unit (I will look into the warranty information), but buyers should be aware that this could become an issue for them as well.
Beautiful Grand Piano sound, to start off with. Way better than just a keyboard. Full 88 keys, just like a real piano. Keys that feel like a my old grand piano I use to have as a child. I am only an intermediate beginner, and find it hard to read music. I can only play by ear. But this makes it extra fun for me with all the hundreds of different sounds, songs and functions to play with.
My favorite thing is playing along with the beautiful, well done pre-recorded songs that come with it. It is like I have a band or orchestra to play with, and that inspires me to keep playing and doing better to keep up with them and even add my own music into the mix. I can also play many, many other musical instruments like guitars, bass, sax, harmonica etc. So many to choose from. So much fun.
It can even play the chords with one finger, oh thank you Yamaha!
With all my playing, my family is glad it comes with the option to wear earphones. So I can play and learn, and they can study or read in quiet. I did need to buy an RCA jack to mini jack adapter for my headphones though. I didn't have any headphones with the large RCA plug.
I didn't like the learning guide that came with it. I would suggest this one: Alfred's Self-Teaching Adult Piano Course: The new, easy and fun way to teach yourself to play, Book & CD
Note: Weight is about 100 pounds. It takes two people to lift the box, to put it together and lift piano onto the stand.
Additionally, if you are buying it for a gift, it comes in a box that clearly broadcasts what is inside. You may need to be a stealthy gift giver and make sure you intercept the delivery.
