The only thing I would like to have is a remote connection to turn it off at night, since I have to go from my cabin to the shed where I keep it running in order to turn it off about 11:30pm or 12:00am.
and drills. It does not drive you out of the house due to the noise like some generators.
It is light enough for one person to carry easily and easy to load into a pickup or van.
The EF2800i provides enough power for our 30 foot trailer when I need to run the microwave, AC or wifey's hair dryer and to charge the batteries if the solar panels haven't had enough sunlight during cloudy days or when parked in the shade. The only time it kicked out under a big load was when I tried to run the AC and discovered the carb needed cleaning and spark plug needed to be replaced. This is super easy maintenance. Speaking of maintenance, the open-frame design makes it much easier than the equivalent Honda which is enclosed in plastic covers. Everything is right there easy to access.
I purchased the Yamaha at a power equipment store on the recommendation of the store owner and reading a lot of reviews. I had briefly looked at cheaper generators but the more I read, the more I knew I didn't want to go the cheap route. Keep in mind this was 7 years ago and the choices were Honda and Yamaha for quality inverter generators. Either are a good choice but the Yamaha fit my needs better and was less money.
The Yamaha is not as quiet as the Honda but the difference is barely noticeable. It is quiet enough especially in the eco mode which throttles down unless max power is required. One thing I haven't read in other reviews is this Yamaha meets all Federal and State noise and spark arrest requirements. We spend a lot of time camping in National Parks and Forests so this is important to us.
Bottom line: you get what you pay for. You can buy cheaper but you can't buy better. I am confident it will run reliably for another 7 years.
The yamaha's exhaust is a little more pop-pop-pop than the honda's hummmmmmm sound. I does have more output than the eu2000 though.
Likes: fuel gauge, 3 gallon tank, easily replaceable starter rope, fuel shutoff valve, twist lok connector.
Dislikes: honda directs all heated air in 1 direction... useful for heating water in a metal can, drying shoes, etc. yamaha's cooling air goes multiple directions and is not usable in such a manner.
As anyone knows... the honda series or yamaha series are excellent units.
