Our Gopher Mole Bait Applicator is your easiest, cleanest, and most effective solution. Improved larger barrel accommodates just about any commercial bait. Extra durable, all steel construction. There is no danger of harming children or other animals when used as instructed. Simply put appropriate bait into the applicator reservoir, locate tunnels by probing around fresh dirt mounds, and deposit bait deep in each tunnel by turning the crank arm. Nothing to disposed of. When mounds stop appearing, you know the job is done. Yard Butler guarantees all Yard Butler tools for life against any defects in manufacturing or materials.

From the Manufacturer

Take Your Garden Back With The Gopher/Mole Bait Applicator Unsightly mounds of dirt are just the tip of the iceberg Pocket Gophers live deep in the soil and feed on any type of vegetation found underground or near their burrow openings. They will ravage many garden crops, ornamental plants, vines, shrubs, and trees. They will even gnaw through plastic irrigation systems. A single gopher can do a considerable amount of damage in a very short time. Moles burrow near the surface and are voracious carnivores feeding on grubs and beneficial earthworms and insects. They are surprisingly quick and aggressive and can easily catch and kill mice. They have a high metabolism and can consume their own weight in food each day. Both moles and gophers leave unsightly dirt mounds and depressions in lawns. They reproduce quickly and must be stopped as soon as they are noticed. Traps can be used to kill moles and gophers but require a lot of digging and skill in placement to be effective. Traps must be dug up and checked frequently and moved to new locations until they finally work. Young children and pets need to be kept away from the traps to prevent injury. The dead pests need to be removed and disposed of if they are caught. The Gopher/Mole Bait Applicator is much easier, cleaner, safer and is generally the most effective method of control. There is no danger of harming children or other animals when used as instructed. Nothing to disposed of. When mounds stop appearing, you know the job is done.

I've had one of these bait applicators for several years and have used it with a lot of success. Previous to this I tried hand applied baits, traps and the non-effective water hose. Out of those choices, the traps worked the best except you had to actually face your gopher victim which is not particularly pleasant if your gopher is still alive because they're nasty, aggressive little critters . The bait applicator works better than all of them.

With the bait applicator, as soon as you find some fresh diggings, you start probing for the tunnels around the new site with the long probe of the device, drop some pellets in the tunnel via the crank & pellet holder and the gopher digging just stops. It's almost anti-climatic. YOU don't have to dig for their tunnels and THEY just disappear. If you fancy yourself as a "Gopher Killer" as did Bill Murray in the movie "Caddyshack" this device just takes all the drama out of gopher control.

It does require a little artsy-crafty skill because you have to "feel" for the "drop" of the probe into the tunnel which can be a little tricky in loose sand but one develops a skill and becomes quite accurate.

This tool is very effective and ensures pets can not be exposed to the poison. Since you never touch the poison using this tool gophers will eat the poison quickly as there is no human scent on the food. Plus, you dont get dirty digging up holes to pour the poison into. You simply find the gopher tunnel by sticking the tool into the ground. Additionally no poison is accessible to pets as you are injecting the poison into the gopher tunnel under ground. I am happy with this product.

Our neighborhood in S Cal is plagued with "pocket gophers" from time to time. I have tried everything to kill them - traps, electronic devices, different sprays, etc etc. Finally resorted to having a professional exterminator come in and he used some bait (not available to the general public) and a device like this to get the job done.

Next time we had and outbreak, I did a little more research and found some bait that I thought would work - "Gopher Getter Type 1" sold here on Amazon. I spent $80 total for the applicator and bait, but IT DOES THE JOB. I easily wasted over $100 on all the other things I tried. This works, plain and simple and the 5 lbs of bait I bought should last me for quite a while.

The applicator is very easy to use. Load the compartment with the bait. You push the tip into the ground and you can actually 'feel' when you hit one of their tunnels. There is a little lever at the top you turn - this opens a door near the tip and the pellets fall out under the ground so your pets and other animals can't get to them

Note, the exterminator was charging me around $75 each time they came out, and they only guaranteed their work for 3 weeks. Most of the time, the gophers were coming over from the neighbor's yard :(

Well worth the money

The bait applicator works as described. However, I found that it's best to tighten the screw that holds the black plastic cap over the bait box just enough to hold the cap on. If you cinch the screw down too much it causes the black plastic cap to warp, not fit properly, and bait can escape from the top.

Within a month of buying a new house, we started seeing gopher mounds. Our battle with this evil little rodent could easily rival Caddyshack! We tried smoke bombs, Juicy Fruit gum, flooding tunnels with a hose, filling tunnels with car exhaust fumes, sonic spikes, and even traps, but this gopher was unstoppable. So, we figured we'd try one last thing before hiring someone. I saw another reviewer mention that they had great success with Go-Die Gopher Bait, so I bought that too. I filled the box with bait and completely emptied it by applying it to several different spots around the yard - with no problem recognizing when the Yard Butler hit a tunnel, you can definitely feel the void in the soil. We haven't had any signs of life since then and its been 1-week. My yard still looks like a war zone, but with no new holes or mounds I know the grass will grow back. I'm sure we'll get more gophers in the future, but this will be my new secret weapon.

UPDATE 9/2/2015: It's been four months and still no signs of gopher life! Oh, and the grass is back to normal.

We have gophers and moles. That's just the nature of the land in this area. We were using another type of gopher tool for the first few years and it started jamming. I found this tool on Amazon and bought two of them. The Yard Butler is much better quality than our other ones. The cylinder to distribute the poison is bigger and stronger. The whole unit is built well.

We use the Yard Butlers daily and have not had any problems with jamming. The mole tunnels are easy to find and poison. The gophers are a different matter. These tools are so sturdy it's easy to go through hard dirt and clay to find to their tunnels.

UPDATE 11/2010 There is one small caveat with this machine. Do not use it as a walking stick! The dispenser tube is made from two pieces: the long tube and then a second piece that forms the point. My husband used it was a walking stick on concrete (before he got to the hay field) for several months until the point caved in from all that punishment - he pretty much slammed it on the concrete with each step. I'm amazed the point lasted as long as it did.

Since the first order, I've purchased four more. These purchases were made after the first unit was damaged because we did not see the point/cement situation being a deterrent. We strategically place the units around the hay meadow so about the time we run out of poison in the one we're using, we're near a full one. These units hold quite a bit of poison and we have quite a large area to cover.

I should explain the reason reason we use the handheld units instead of a big tractor pulled poisoner. The first reason is we control the amount and location of the poison we put in the earth. The second reason is we've discovered the tractor pulled units simply create an expressway for the little critters to use at their leisure.

Oh, yes, my husband no longer uses the units as a walking stick on concrete.
