I've had this mower for almost two years now (as of this update March 2013), and overall I am very happy with it. I really like the rear wheel drive with the larger rear wheels. Amazon had the wrong picture of this mower at first, but the picture is correct now.

The mower starts on the first pull every time. The choke system is idiot proof. One thing that stands out about this mower is the air filter. It's nothing special. It has the same filter that is on the Briggs and Stratton mower that I am replacing. The air filter on the Briggs motor would need to be cleaned twice during one lawn mowing. There is a more dirt and dust where I live, no doubt. But the same filter on the Honda motor doesn't need to be cleaned until the job is done, and even then the filter is half as dirty as one cleaning of the Briggs motor filter. I surmise that it has something to do with the position of the filter that makes it run so much cleaner on the Honda.

I don't have any regrets about buying this mower. It is doing the job and it is not difficult to operate.

I'm kind of surprised at the one and two star reviews of this mower. Some buyers have commented about starting problems that I bet have more to do with old gasoline than anything else. If you are going to store the mower for the winter then you need to add fuel stabilizer or just drain the tank for the winter. Problem solved. Also don't use gas that has been stored for a long time unless you add fuel stabilizer before the gasoline gets old. This applies to all of your small engines. It does make a difference.

I just ordered this model and it was delivered about 11 days later via UPS. I bought it because of the 160cc GVC Honda engine. I had a Honda self propelled mover that never failed to start over a 5 year period. I've owned several mowers in my 54 years and have never had that kind of track record with the american manufactured engines.

This mower also has the standard features of bagging or mulching; But when the grass is thick and wet this side discharge feature is nice to have. Side discharge is not available Honda brand mowers I've seen.

The web picture attached caused me a bit of confusion (the picture is of a single speed model) the model number for the VARIABLE SPEED DRIVE is "AVD" so verify the model number has "AVD" in it if not then that mower may be single speed. This mower's cluch handle for controlling the variable speed drive is V shaped handles at the center of the hand grip so you can control with either Left or Right Hands. The LARGER rear wheels are also a plus.

Assembly was a snap, just follow the procedures (oil, 4 bolts, gasoline, and tighten 2 tie wraps). If your a handyman that don't follow the procedures...here's a tip, the handle bars pull/slide out of the mower deck about 8 inches to put the handlebar carriage bolts in. It sumped me for a few minutes, (the wheels were in the way of the holes). Initial startup took about 5 chokes to get the fuel into the lines after that it started up first pull every time while mowing my lawn.

An aditional feature that I didn't know of until it arrived; all four wheels adjust for height by a knob like handle on the left side. No need to adjust each wheel. Very nice feature.

Purchased this lawnmower after doing hours and hours of research on different mowers, I went with this one because I wanted the Honda engine and the self propelled option. I am very happy I choose the self propelled even with a small yard it makes it real easy to mow the lawn in no time. It came down to this mower and the Husqvarna, the Yard-Man seemed to have better reviews so that is why I decided on it. The mower in the picture is not the model you will get (see the other reviews) it is an upgraded model with a variable speed on the self propelled option. To see the model Google search "Yard-Man 12AVD39Q701" the right pic will come up. It came in 2 days via UPS and was very easy to assemble took maybe 30 minutes, filled it with gas and oil and started on the first pull. I only have used it once but I love it so far

I purchased a Yard Man 12AVD39Q701 self-propelled lawnmower from Amazon on 6/1/12 and received it promptly via UPS in perfect condition. As others have mentioned, assembly was very easy, and all was fine until I adjusted the deck height - this mower has a single lever adjuster at the left rear wheel that raises and lowers all four wheels together - pretty cool idea. Except, while the two front wheels adjust perfectly along with the left rear, the right rear wheel flops up and down due to a sloppy/loose connection to the height adjuster. The result is the mower ends up doing a "diagonal wheelie" with the left front wheel completely unweighted as the weight of the mower & rear bag drop the right rear corner down toward the ground. Based on the prior positive reviews here on Amazon, I assumed the mower I received had a one-off problem and contacted Amazon to explain the problem and request return and replacement. Luckily, Amazon was gracious in allowing me to return the mower and shipped me a replacement right away. Unfortunately, the replacement mower arrived with the exact same problem. Upon closer inspection, it became clear that the problem is the result of a major design defect - the right rear wheel is connected to the deck height adjustment system via a flimsy metal rod that flexes, exactly like a spring, causing the left rear wheel to flop up and down in relation to the rest of the mower. I contacted Yard Man's tech support line to discuss the problem, and the tech I spoke with was useless - while he clearly understood the problem as I described it, the only thing he could offer/suggest was for me to bring the mower to one of their local repair centers to have it "fixed." The only fix to this mower is a complete redesign of the deck height adjustment system.
