This is a great assortment of resistors. The package came in good condition and as advertised on the photos. This kit will provide you a wide range of values for different projects amid the other kits offered on Amazon that don’t have such a variety of values. Nevertheless, I want to highlight two issues regarding the product.— The resistors have a 1% tolerance, which is indicated by the last brown color band. I randomly tested some of them to confirm that claim. Most of them were well within the specifications. On average they were off between 1 and 4 ohms. I noticed; however, that as the value increases the tolerance slightly does as well. I measured two 8.2M resistors. One gave me 8.23M which is quite accurate, and another gave me 8.5M which was about 3% of tolerance not 1%. I could infer that this issue repeated in the higher value resistors. For the price I paid, I was expecting more accuracy, which most of them are but not all.— Second, the leads are thin. Not so good for breadboarding, which is the purpose I intend to use them. I’m not saying that they’re flimsy. It’s just that they’re not as comfortable to work with as the ones with thicker leads. I just noticed that this seller also offers 1/2 Watt resistors, which I would imagine them to have slightly thicker pins. Unfortunately, it’s too late to get them so I’ll stick to these ones for the moment.I noticed that the resistors with 1% of tolerance are colored in blue compared to others with a different tolerance. My guess is that this is some sort of a convention or a standard for manufactures when making resistors with a very low tolerance. However, it’s difficult to spot some colors, not to mention the small size of them, due the blue background. I had to use a magnifying glass to check the colors of some of them.Another thing worth mentioning are the 0 ohm resistors. That left me scratching my head because why on Earth would I need them?A quick search on Google gave me the answer. They’re used by resistor insertion machines as links or jumper wires. This is done with the aim to avoid the use of specialized machines. I didn’t plan to use them for that purpose, plus they were kind of a nuisance for me because they’re were just taking up space. Therefore I got rid of them. That being said, I highly recommend this assortment of resistors because they do what they’re supposed to do. They’re very well packed in ziplock bags with a label on them showing the resistance value. Very easy to find. I went a step ahead, and I printed out labels showing the color band of each resistor, which I later put in a 3 ring binder. However, I later noticed with a confused and frustrated face that these were 5 band resistors, and I have printed the color codes for 4 band resistors. At least they will work for the other 4 band resistors that I have laying around. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but it’s very rewarding to have them all organized in a neat manner, especially if you don’t have a lot of space.

This kit is awesome. It always contains the resistor value that I need, even the very odd values that you cant get at "Radio Shack".
They come already organized and the kit does not take up much space in my work area. I do check resistors with my multimeter before I use them and so far, all have been within tolerence or very close (my meter may also be off a little)... This kit makes my projects so much easier. It takes a little time to get used to reading the color band system for 1% tolerances resistors, (the blue color of the resistor makes it harder for my eyes to contrast the color of bands) but his is the industry standard and I am getting used to it, besides, they all come in bags with the values labled on them. The plastic baggies are durable ziplock type, so I just put the resistor back in the bag when done for future use, and everything stays organized. All in all, an excellent value.

This is a very nice starter set for someone getting their feet wet with learning electronics, arduino, etc. While not the cheapest per-unit price around, you will find every possible combination of resistor you are likely to ever need.

I've since switched to using this box of resistors as my "go to" place to find the correct value resistor quickly, and when a baggie runs out of the most commonly used values I simply re-fill it from bulk orders of those types. Having all the less commonly-used resistor values can be quite handy, as it's very easy to quickly try a few different values when prototyping a project.

These are extremely well labeled with laser-printer labels, and the box they come is is perfectly sized for this use. They get the little things right! The sticker on the lid of the box shows the common color coding -> value lookup chart, which for those of us who have not done this all our lives can be extremely handy as well! For those of you who have bought similar sets from overseas suppliers directly, you will find this to be a much more pleasant experience.

I don't think this combination of values, quantity and price can be beat for resistors. If you are just building your electronics kit or need a wide range of resistor values, this seems like the best place to start. Also, having them individually bagged with labels is amazing! Its probably obvious to everyone out there, but I also want to mention that they are sorted (left-to-right) in increasing resistance. With this setup, its effortless to find the value needed. I've used several of these in conjunction with an LCD, LEDs, servos, and small DC motors. They've all worked perfectly.

As mentioned by someone else, it can be a bit difficult at times to read the stripes, but I want to point out that I have another set of resistors that are even smaller. I can't read those values at all without assistance (magnifying glass). These I can read just by focusing (and maybe going cross-eyed a bit in the process :-) ). But as I already said, after you've done it a few times to confirm that they are actually labeled correctly, you'll never need to read the stripes again when you can just read the clear, bold print on the baggie.

OK - they're resistors in small ziploc bags in a cardboard box. How exciting can they be? I got the kit for my classroom - normally get resistors in 100 lot bags for projects, but for the end of the year projects, sometimes someone is doing something special and we need an odd size. I brought in my 'resistor book' (another resistor kit style) - but there's no way that book with the stabled in tape-feed bunches of resistors is going to last a few usages by students. This box is 'right sized' - everything fits well, and easy to get individual bags in and out, but not loose and sloppy or encouraging just shoving stuff down the sides. Labels are well printed and have sizes on sides that are up-facing when the bag is in the box, making it easy to find the size you want.

Every value comes packaged in a neat little plastic bag with a printed label so you don't even have to read the the bands. The whole kit is neatly packed in a sturdy little cardboard box and you could use them just as they are without sorting them into drawers.

You also get a set of 0 ohm resistors, not wire jumpers but resistors banded for zero ohms! As a hobbyist, I don't see why I would prefer these over plain jumper wires, but they are kind of cool to have. I plan to show them to my buddies and ask them to read off the value to me :) Yes do I know they have their use.

If you have the time, read the comments on D. Deloach's review and you will see that Joe is very serious about producing a good product that meets his customers' needs.

That being said, my one gripe about nost resistor kits, is that they don't take into account the fact that some values are more popular than others. It's great to buy a kit like this once so that you have every value represented but when the time comes to restock, I expect to still have most of the values under 100ohms and above 1m ohm.

From my personal experience and some informal research on the web, it seems that the most commonly used values are the E12 series in the 1k & 10k ranges and a few values from the 100 & 100k ranges.

The E12 series, which is based on 10% increments goes:

10, 12, 15, 18, 22, 27, 33, 39, 47, 56, 68, 82.

Update:

I found these values at 5% in packs of 50 for $0.99 including shipping on ebay and loaded up on the values that I mentioned.

futurelec sells a 1/4w 'Value Pack' of 300 resistors for $2.95. Its a bit hard to find at their site. Do a search on 'resistors' and click on the 'more info' icon in the searc results. This pack does emphasize the more commonly used values giving 10 pcs in most values and 20pcs in the very common ones. They come neatly packaged in labeled cellophane bags. Their other component packs are nice too. I got two of their capacitor packs.

I finally unpacked all the resistors I got from Joe's kit. I was a bit frustrated to find a few values that are not on the standard E12 series. This is annoying since most circuits spec the standard values and I have a cabinet with a little drawer for each of the E12 values. Where do these go?
