It contains a small amount of shellac to help with water resistance, and I recommend mixing the ink before use.
This ink does contain camphor, calcium chloride, and isothiazolinone. I have never had an issue with camphor and use camphor in topical creams in granule form. Isothiazolinones can cause allergic reactions in some individuals. I am not one of them. I have had no issues with using this ink indoors and have had no adverse reaction from it coming in contact with my skin. Calcium chloride can dry out your skin or cause burns in the mouth or esophagus. So don't drink the ink, I guess.
Now, keep in mind, because it is rich black, it will stain. I clean my dip pens constantly, so I have no problem with that. But, for brushes a do recommend to clean them in an area set just for that... This is not only because it is very hard to take out a brush, but also because of the warning label. The label states that it an cause irritation in eyes, skin and can cause harm if inhaled or ingested. It tells you to use with proper ventilation. Personally, I haven't notice a strong odor or anything of the sort from the ink. I haven't had any issues relating to the warning label either. But, I do work in a well ventilated area and I do keep it away from the reach of my child and pets. Better safe than sorry.
I really recommend this ink to any artist. But especially for artist starting out with ink. It's a quality ink that gives you good quantity to experiment without breaking your piggy bank.
