I thought about what is so powerful in this book and I came to this: empathy.
I may not be able to identify with everything Berni shares here. And because she and I seem to share some important attributes - character, commitment to causes, working in service, trauma survival, redefining entrepreneurship - I found a new guide, advisor, mentor and most importantly, an inspiring friend.
The Year of the Brave Bear is a fast read - should you want to tear through it - which makes it particularly valuable for (among the many who need to read it) those with their own business, those who are stuck and unsure of things in life, those who are flat out fearful. Why? Because like all great books, reading this one more than once is like revisiting the best antique shop: you find something different and something great each time you visit.
Brilliantly simple. Abundantly inspiring. I will be definitely be revisiting this book on a regular basis.
Berni Xiong's The Year of the Brave Bear is a honest and beautiful story of what holds us back and how to take action inspite of it. I've had a lump in my throat the entire time I was reading it. So amazing. Only one book has made such a powerful impact as this book and that book is Brené Browns Daring Greatly. Get this book ASAP!! You won't regret it!!
The author does a good job of telling her own story of how she went from great success in the corporate world to great success in the non-corporate world. If you're in a similar situation, reading this book may help you get there, too.
