1) Sharing a small number of "units" is bad with smartphones, which love to drain data.
2) If you go over your limit and didn't give a credit card, they disconnect you.
First, smartphones. They're always using data for something even in the background, unless you keep them on WiFi or airplane mode all the time. And 250MB over a whole month isn't a lot, so you could easily see a large chunk of your monthly units disappear just due to this kind of "leakage".
But the second bigger problem with this SIM card is what happens if you don't provide a credit card when you activate it (giving a credit card is optional). I skipped the credit card, and after about a month and a half service stopped working. When I inquired, they said I'd gone over my monthly limit, and since I hadn't provided a credit card to bill me for the overage, they had suspended my account.
This policy isn't spelled out in the product info here or on their site, and it's not how most limited cell plans work, where if you go over, they just temporarily stop service until the next monthly cycle starts.
(And if you do give a credit card, I'm not sure what they charge for overages; their rates aren't shown in this product listing and I couldn't find them on their website either - it lists rates for some of their plans but not this one).
Knowing all this I can't really recommend this SIM card, except maybe for a dumb phone that you won't use very often.
P. S. I don't know if they call or text to warn about going over, I wasn't the user of the phone. But in their canned emailed responses to my inquiries they didn't mention doing that.
------ ORIGINAL REVIEW -------
Activating the sim card online was easy, I had to enter my Amazon order number (which I guess means that at least right now, this item is only sold on Amazon). Giving credit card info is optional, it said only if you want auto refill, so I didn't do it.
When I installed the sim card in my phone (a new Alcatel A30 unlocked GSM I purchased separately from Amazon), it automatically installed Access Point Name (APN) settings, which are needed to get MMS working.
But although calls, voicemail, texts, and data worked fine, I was unable to send or receive pictures via the texting app (MMS).
I contacted support via their website, and got a quick reply with info on how to manually update the APN settings, which fixed the problem.
It also turned out that the APN settings shown on their website were wrong, but they fixed it quickly when I told them.
Their support via email responded fast and knew what they were talking about.
