In the digital world attention is shrinking and focus is altering, 140 – character communication on twitter has taken over. In today’s world, when poetry as a medium of expression is losing its importance, Lalit has utilized it to share his feelings with the readers and inspire them. Year’s Spent reflects life events. Recurring use of figures of speech, such as metaphors, similes, personification help readers identify with the author and conveys his true emotions. It is a good read for all ages, as everyone can relate to the underlying context of these poems. The book is a great example of creative expression.

Years Spent is a compelling book of poems! On a journey to discovering adventures of life, this outstanding piece expresses authentic emotions described with words and verses that speak to me in every way. It’s divided into five segments, Life and Exploration, Freedom and Adventure, Pain and Loss, Success and Achievement, and Love and Passion. Each one of these segments exquisitely portrays the aspects of life. This beautifully written book is not only inspiring but also influential! I highly recommend this to everyone who needs a reminder of the beauty and importance of life!

What better time to review a poetry book than poetry month? The poems were a cerebral treat to conclude a spent day with poems from “Years spent”. “There is part of me in my things around” “I grew up but my things did not”(Belongings). “Niggling Fear or raging fire, whom should I choose” (Fear or Fire) The central theme of the book screams “liberation”. The book is divided into sections and my favorite was Pain and Loss” be it “Semblance of Sanity”, “Bright and Dark”(Liked the juxtaposition of contrasts), or “I am Free”, Found some interesting usage of words in poems like “SNAFU” (Abyss of time), “helter-skelter” etc. The poet takes you on a journey with him, and it is a good and refreshing one!

I thoroughly enjoyed each and every poem in this book, “Years Spent”. The author depicts his way with words and his breadth of experiences that’s beautifully captured in the book. Some of the poems that made me recall my own life journey and reflect through are ‘Roots’, ‘You Matter’ and ‘A nudge of Memory’ ..highly recommended book for everyone and esp. for Indian diaspora.

The book really captures the very many colors I highly value and seek to experience in my own life. The poems would be relatable to anyone who is at all excited by a sense of self-exploration and adventure in life. They're full of motivation to seek more than what society expects from you. Seek not things, but new experiences. As life is really not much more than all the unique and personal experiences you collect over time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt portrayal of the author's journey

Written mostly in first person narrative, 'Years Spent:..' is a heartfelt, often nostalgic, sometimes poignant collection of poems by the author who does not want to sleepwalk through life! Lalit seems alive to each and every experience, determined to make this one life count. While in 'Span of these seconds' there is realization of the slipping time shrouding the present into a distant past, in 'My words', he experiences transcendental solitude flying on the wings of his imagination. Lalit seems alive to a higher calling questioning 'if there is one true calling', while at the same time very aware of the insignificance of his existence in 'You matter'. 'Absorbing the intellectual vitality of being alive' while sipping coffee on shores far far away from his roots, Lalit evokes various emotions - ambition, longing, love, loss in the reader that an immigrant in a land far way will immediately relate to. In this heartfelt collection, Lalit does leave you wondering if in the bigger scheme of things, 'does the journey itself take a meaning larger than the destination'? Very well written and highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars This is not just a poetry novel, it's the depiction of life itself.

Poetry is the very essence of life. It's the fleeting thought which floats from one realm to another, between fiction & reality. It's also the reflection of our very orderly existence. This reminds me of a saying,
'Don't just exist,
learn to live your life.
Don't forget to count the stars
while looking at the moon.'
All this is possible with the help of poems.

So why is poetry so important? One can understand this from the quote by Robin Williams from a very popular movie' Dead Poets Society'.
"We read & writer poetry because we're members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering are noble pursuits necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love - these are what we stay alive for..."
Thus, it is very essential inorder to sustain what we can happiness (bliss) for a perpetual state of time.

The poet explores his inner emotions in tandem with reader's minds. It helps introspect one's true calling. This book helps readers to connect with their lives while filling them with new thoughts, ideas & inspirations. The most remarkable thing about this short poetry book is the language used here. It's so deep, well written & full of rich vocabulary which touches the chord the moment we set our eyes in them. The alignment is perfect, even the presentation is aptly balanced. In addition to these, there are plenty of images/illustrations added at several segments/sections/parts of the book which looks appealing & appropriate to the eyes of the reader.

The only drawback being it lacks the essenctial coordination between each poem throughout the entire book. While some of the poems are enriched with much superiority whereas others pale in comparison to the contrast presented here. Also, I wish there were suitable rhyming schemes added to make them more beautiful.

As a reader stories touch by heart but it is poetry which will always be in my heart forever.

As I have written poetries for the dear one's the essence of writing and expressing the emotions hits way more differently.

Lalit has beautifully written the poetries in "years spent" where he has explained adventure, life and love.

Desires and obsessions poetries touched my heart.

The poet sums up the true life events throughout like pain , emotions and the beautiful life gifted.
