The Farewell Drifters
"Yellow Tag Mondays"
(Thirty Tigers, 2010)
-----------------------------------------------------
A nice mellow, modern progressive bluegrass set which should appeal to fans of all those old Nickel Creek albums... This Nashville-based band also shows that they can pick some fine breakdowns, but largely they leave the fast stuff and the high lonesome sound aside in favor of a mellower, more introspective sound. In addition to romantic themes, they also explore some spiritual issues, particularly at the album's close, and they show their links to the pop world with a nice acoustic cover of the Beatles oldie, "For No One." If you enjoy forward-thinking, folk-tinged bluegrass, from Nickel Creek to artists such as Peter Rowan or The Newgrass Revival, then this is an album you might wanna check out. Did you ever get something for about half price that turned out to be so good you would have gladly paid double? That's this album for me -- I got it on an Amazon special, thinking it might be nice. Well, this group is awesome. The bluegrass instruments are played with intricate skill, and blend so perfectly with folk-style vocals. This music is clear and open, very joyous to listen to. It's in the CD changer in the car, and it's likely to stay there for a while.

These guys are fantastic. They are true poets but do not leave us behind in the midst of their genius. Instead-they take us along for the ride. Seriously, the opening track, Love We Left Behind, is the perfect accompaniment to a summer drive with the windows down and the volume all the way up. It doesn't get better than this.

Discovered these guys by accident on a fishing trip in a small restaurant in Floyd, Virginia and found them to be great musicians with clear and sharp lead vocals and mellow harmonies. They have a bright future and I am glad I was able to see them early in their careers.

I became a fan of the Farewell Drifters, after hearing them perform at a Nashville venue. It is a talented group of musicians, and this album really showcases their talent as individuals, as well as a co-hesive group sound.

Heard this Band live in TN after their recent American tour and I could not believe the down to earth personna of all the players and the pure sound of their live music. I am buying their current CD's in mass and am looking to future CDs from this very talented group.
