I laughed & cried like never before & probably never will again. This is an exceptional example of the amazing talent possessed by Ms McClendon. I am so grateful that she has decided to share it with us!!
At first, "Yes to Everything" comes across as a simple rags-to-riches story set in the music industry. Don't be fooled. The plot is character driven and takes some major turns along the way. And it's a fun ride, as well as an emotional one. I fell in love with the characters, wanted to smack some of them on occasion, and found myself crossing my fingers that everyone would end up with their happy ever after. Yes, everyone. You get a three-in-one story here and the supporting cast are all well developed, fully fleshed out characters. They aren't thrown in for the hell of it and nothing is gratuitous. You won't forget who is who or what they did in a previous chapter and they add to the main story instead of distracting you from it. There is a prominent theme of family being more than just the people you're related to and all the characters serve that theme well.
Shayne gives us a look at what it's like to go from obscurity to stardom almost overnight. Brooke is both sweet and tough, and completely unaware of her own appeal, although she definitely comes into her own as the story unfolds. Things get a little crazy and when she finds out that something which seemed perfect in the beginning - isn't, her reaction surprised me. In a Very Good Way.
The sex scenes are hot (yummy alpha males, anyone?) and very much anything goes. I always love this element in Shayne's books and Sidney is especially fun in this respect. Oh, how I loved that crazy little spider monkey. And Rex - Holy Hotness, Batman. Tattooed Marines...enough said. The Bradshaw twins are also bookends of gorgeous. Naughty bookends.
"Yes to Everything" - a highly recommended read. Hopefully you'll have air conditioning. Or a fan.
Of all the books I have read lately and I read a lot this is the one that has stayed with me the longest. I have read it six times so far since the first read. That does not count the times I've just read a good scene before I go to bed. I do believe this is going to end up my all time favorite Shayne book
