Purchase options and add-ons
Through personal recollections from Today family members such as Barbara Walters, Tom Brokaw, Jane Pauley, Bryant Gumbel, Katie Couric, Willard Scott, Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Meredith Vieira, and Ann Curry From Yesterday to TODAY will take you on the unique journey traveled by those who reported the news, reflected on cultural trends and provided comfort to a nation of viewers often before they have had that first cup of coffee. For more than sixty years, Today has delivered the public their first glimpse at the new ideas, political leaders, and social upheaval that shaped our lives. It has remained a constant in a dynamic medium that evolved from grainy black-and-white images to the computer screen. It has reminded us of the joy of living and why it is worth getting up each day.

The Book Actually Does Weigh a Lot
The book is well designed and a great deal of time has gone into tweaking the images for maximum clarity. I thought I knew the entire back story but there are some tidbits in the text which were news to me.
What struck us was what was missing, almost as much as what was included. For starts, it's odd that a book covering 60 years of broadcasting has no useful table of contents. It's even more strange that there's no index. So, navigating your way through the book or using it as a reference is impossible. This would have been fine if it were a picture book, but it's not, there is plenty of body copy and no means to search through it for specific elements.
Huge chunks of the Today story are missing along with the people who made them possible. The movement to the weekend portions of the show are completely skipped.
Some of the flops of the Today brand don't appear (Later Today comes to mind). There's a huge story of all the people who make the show happen behind the show which is fascinating but untold here, as well.
If bunches of the personalities are missing how could the book fully tell where their careers went after they left the show. It all feels very incomplete.
So, for a big fan of the show, it's a must have, however, some who have seen more of what the show is all about will be left wanting around 100 or so missing pages which would have told a more complete story.
I'm glad we bought a copy but can't say that it's something I would suggest people run out and buy.
Each page had an event that was worth sharing with older and younger family members. I personally view this book as a
important part of our history and will remain in our personal library forever.
