Transitioning your cat
While some cats can switch from one litter type to another easily, your cat may require a transition. If so, you should follow this simple transition schedule: Week One (en) Mix 1/3 Yesterday's News with 2/3 your current litter. Week Two (en) Mix 2/3 Yesterday's News with 1/3 current litter. Week Three (en) 100% Yesterday's News. Directions: Use a moisture-proof cat box large enough to comfortably accommodate your cat(s). Maintain cat box filler at a depth of 2-3 inches for pawing and covering. We recommend removing waste areas daily. Clean the cat box with warm water and a mild detergent between litter changes. Store in dry place.

After reading all the other postings, I had to post my own review of this product, rather than just comment on some of the others.

After using clumping litter for many years and going through brand after brand (some claiming to be "dust-free" or "99.9% dust-free"), I just got really sick of it and the constant floor/room dusting. We have an extra full-sized room at the back of our house that is just for storage and the cat's litter boxes; even so, I can't stand a dust-covered room.

So #1 reason I recommend this litter - it is literally DUST-FREE. I don't have to worry about wearing my contacts when cleaning litter, or the fine dust that can scratch your glasses, or getting it in my contact-free, glassless eyes! I don't have to breathe in the stuff, or feel like I need to wash my hair and take a bath after scooping it.

2nd reason I recommend it: contains odor very well. Granted I don't have a problem - as some apparently do - in distinguishing poop from litter, or in cleaning out the litter box daily. Perhaps I have a brighter lit area to work with, so I can see the poop better? Also, my cats don't have a problem digging into it and covering up their mess. One of them initially didn't like the change and left their poop at the top, but, after about a week, got over that/figured it out and stopped that behavior. Lastly, I like a clean house and clean litter boxes, so I do wash out the pan (after all, sometimes their pee hits the sides of the box) once every week or two. It only takes about 10 minutes on the patio w/a hose & then leave to air-dry - what's the big deal? Granted, in the winter-time I have to be satisfied with pouring a small bucket of warm, soapy water in the empty pan, switching it around and then pouring it in the toilet to clean it....

I'm the President of PAWS in my local area and I have 12 cats. I've been associated with rescues for many years, and I've tried every litter imaginable. YNs is by far the cleanest, most dust free, simple to use litter I've ever used. I have a very large house, pool cabana and enclosed pool area. It's warm here year round. I have 19 litter boxes. It's important to have enough boxes available, so if a cat wants a clean one, there's always one available. I scoop once a day, however, if someone leaves a solid deposit in the main living area after I've scooped, I will remove it as necessary. There is virtually no tracking, and what few pellets end up on the floor, can be picked up easily. No fine litter all over the place to walk in, and no dust on everything in the vicinity. I first remove the solids. Then I take my scoop (it's a small one with holes that are long and not too large). I've found the scoop that comes with The Breeze works well too. I simply start in the corners and quickly pull back the top layer of litter with the scoop in search of the really soaked stuff. Once I find the soaked litter, I simply shovel under it and plop it into my bag. I use kitchen size trash bags that I can sit on the floor or table, that are tall enough to drape over the side of the box so that nothing spills. Most of my 12 cats end up peeing in one of the 4 corners, but I always check the middle of the box too. Another extremely important part of my litter cleaning is a fabulous product called ZERO ODOR. It was product of the year in 2012 and well deserving of that distinction. I buy mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond because with their 20% off coupons, that's the cheapest place to buy it.Read more ›

The best way to use this litter is by getting the Tidy Cats Breeze Litter box. This box is made for larger pellets so it's easy to scoop. It has a tray on the bottom with a pee pad. The cats urine breaks down the pellets and they fall into the tray on the pad. I change the pad once a week and scoop the litter and it's odor free. I have three cats and only use one box. I am a clean freak and can't stand mess or smelly cat boxes, so this works perfect for me. I would never use anything else. Don't try the pellet litter that comes with the Tidy Cats Breeze box, the yesterdays news works much better!. Below is a link to the box.

I have tried many types of litter from wheat to pine to paper for my 3 cats - all sharing 1 large litter box. The pine didn't seem to be as absorbent as the paper litter or any of the other media I tried. The wheat was tracked the worst through the house. With the wheat, I could map out exactly where the cats go after their business. For tracking, this paper litter is by far the best. The only down side I've found with paper litter is that the litter really has to be done each day. I don't fill the litter box up as much as I do for the other media so I don't have to use as much of the paper. I have also used the Fresh News paper litter. Fresh News pieces of paper are about twice the size as Yesterday's News. I feel the cats like the smaller pieces as it is easier to dig in and it is a little easier to clean-up. Because Fresh News and Yesterday's News are so close the choice for me comes down to price with some favoritism toward Yesterday's News.
