I LOVE this set!
I drink and eat the flesh of fresh young coconuts frequently. Before I found this set I used a sharp cleaver to open them which works if you know where to pierce them but can still be a struggle.
This set is so much easier. It takes several hard whacks of the mallet but you get a perfect circle every time.
I’ve noticed some complaining about the smell of the end of the rubber mallet. It smells like a new bicycle or wagon tire, like rubber. If you find it offensive, store it in a ziplock baggie. I keep mine in the box it came in and store in a cupboard and have no issues and I’m sensitive to odors.
If you use fresh young coconuts in your diet or just for fun, I highly recommend this set.

In Latin america, coconuts are opened with a machete. I don’t have a machete at home in the US and typically tried to open the coconut with various kitchen tools, a lot of mess and a lot of effort.
This product takes care of all of that. The cup is sharp enough to penetrate the coconut with the hit of the hammer…. With a bit of force and a few seconds of effort the coconut has a perfect round opening that it makes it easy to drink and then eat the inside of this delicious treat.

The only con of this product is that the head of the hammer has a chemical smell that still persists …. Less than day 1, but still there nonetheless less.

Product works as expected but it's a bit hard to crack thru the coconut, hit it too hard, it will cause the coconut to crack on the side and water spills out. It may be easier to trim off the top part of the coconut first I supposed. Also the diameter of the tool is seems a bit larger than needed which make it harder to break thru. I would prefer a smaller diameter.

Seriously? Why didn't I buy this sooner? I've bought several boxes of young coconuts and have used a flat head screw driver and mallet to cut a circle around the top to open the coconut. This coconut opener was so easy to use! A few wacks with the mallet and I had the perfect circle and was able to easily open the coconut. A fresh young coconut has so much more coconut milk in it than the traditional brown coconut you see in the grocery store. The meat inside of the young coconut is soft and has the consistency of jello. You an find Fresh Young Coconuts in a box of 9 at almost any Asian grocery store. The outside is white (not brown) - the brown part is inside of the white outside.
