For the price this bit of magic is absolutely amazing. Let's start with the looks. The overall quality from the packaging to the actual tablet is pretty good but it's not a WACCOM or an Apple product. Little and sometimes medium details are poorly considered (I'm sure to save cost and bring this amazing thing to you at 900-900$!!) from the packaging to the actual product itself. Packaging is lackluster to the point where you don't even know what's really inside. Not really a bad idea since this thing is traveling the world to get to you, so it may be nice to avoid any extra curious eyes. The internal packaging the holds the actual screen is perfect in terms of integrity and support but is not magical like Apple. You will not have unicorns flying out after ever bend and turn but will be able to buy one if you want with all the money you saved.
For the product itself. From the moment you pick up the tablet you are met with the same reality as the packaging, it's wanting to look really-really good for you but something is off. The screen is glass with a white border, which looks great but as I mentioned, the small details take away style points. The plastic backing wraps around the sides to create a black, plastic frame for the glass, this ultimately sticks out like a sore thumb and gives it a cheaper look. As already mentioned the back is pretty flimsy plastic but as long as your not hulking this thing that shouldn't matter. The front also has an indicator light that shines blue to let you know the tablet is working. The thickness of the tablet is nice, altogether it feels pretty good, you can lean on it without feeling like it's going to bend but it's also not the thickness of a dictionary. It also doesn't weigh a lot so it's easy to move around and secure to an adjustable arm if you wish.
Functionality and Usability. This is where the tablet would get 5 stars but also looses 1. When connecting the tablet a few things are very peculiar. The DVI/VGA connector is hardwired into the tablet. So if for some reason you damage that cord...uh... you have to take the thing apart? This to me, seems unnecessary and not really a cost-saving decision, so I am not sure why this choice was made. This alone is not really that big of a deal, more of a head scratcher. The reason the tablet looses a star is because of this particular tablet's inclusion of the control pad. Great idea... horrible execution. Mostly because it doesn't work AS IS. Using the suction cups to connect the key controller to the tablet makes me feel like a toddler and I think the tablet feels the same way and is why it constantly rejects it (without fail). To really use the key controller you have to either velcro it, but some other stand/pad or get inventive in your creative space. Not a HUUGE deal but for the frustration is has caused me over the last few months, I have stopped using it and that warrants the loss of a STAR, BAM! Especially since when it does work... it actually works surprisingly well and helps the workflow a lot.
The actual pen to tablet interaction is a 5 star experience and I dare say better than WACCOM. The accuracy and tolerance of the pen-to-tablet is insane. And really this is the entire reason we use these tablets and is also the reason I returned my 24" Waccom and got this..well... that and to save thousands. This tablet also comes with 2 pens and a pen holder that Yinova sends a poem with!! So cute (I mean that). The pens are battery powered (tripple A) which is fine for me so I have no complaints there. I am sure in a few years if this company continues growing they can make a rechargeable pen. The button the pen is not great and I prefer the Waccom pen button more. The reason for this is this pen has a flush button so to press it you are fighting with the walls of then pen and really have to press. This extra hassle is...well....a hassle. I like when a button protrudes just a tad so that there is a tactile response that you are in fact touching a button.
My last point is Yiynova as a company. 10 stars easy. This kind of level of service is hard to find. WOW. Instant, personal e-mail response. Free support as well as product when something may be not working. You are making people's lives easier which is what support means. So Thank you.
-Response time is pretty good. Occasionally when blending a lot of colors or doing some crazy fast crosshatching it may need a second or two to catch up but not a deal breaker.
-Use in a Duel monitor setup, works perfect when the drivers are working with windows 10 (more on that later)
-Works amazing in Manga Studio/ Clip Studio paint, Adobe Light room and Illustrator CC. However having many brush issues when trying to digitally paint in Photoshop CC. I may just need to update photohop to fix this though.
-Screen is very reflective and can be a little distracting, especially if you have a light on right about you. See attached photo of ceiling fan light reflection.
-Since you do not have the gestures like in the Intuous 5 and the cintiqs, recommend something like the ShuttleExpress to help with screen rotation, brush size increase, etc to speed up your workflow.
-WARNING FOR WIN 10 USERS: It works perfect when you chase down the newest working driver. Because Windows 10 auto updates, every few months the update will delete the drivers. If you find your tablet is not responding to the pen at all check the hidden icons section on your start menu task bar and if your tablet drivers are no longer there it's time to go to the yinova or Panda city websites and see if there is a new driver and reinstall it. I just got his by this before I meant to work on a clients piece, so while I'm downloading the driver wanted to write this review. Hope it helps some of you.
