I have considered myself an intermediate with a yo yo, and was really looking to get back into it with a much better quality yo yo than which I used as a teen. I did a lot of research thinking I was going to spend around $100 ish on a heavy pro metal yo.
Came across this and am glad I did. After thorough research I figured it was worth a try for $30 ish online before buying something more expensive.
WOW. Such a good decision. This thing can FLY when you set it just right. Sleeps on what seems like mind control, lots of give for tricks and can respond also as it controlled by your mind.
After getting this I am realizing that I am learning more tricks faster than I ever thought possible. And I have also realized that IF I HAD gone straight to a metal yo yo, I would have BROKEN MY HAND or maybe my teeth! This Velocity is heavy enough unless you are ALREADY VERY GOOD. After a few days my hand is bruised and needs a break haha. Hard to put this thing down though.
This is the ultimate tool to go from beginner/intermediate, to full out prostar. When you adjust the knob all the way to pro, there is literally ZERO response, it just won't come back up. Once you MASTER this yo, you are ready for a metal pro yoyo.
SO MUCH FUN. Coolest yo yo I have ever used to date.
(PS the string that comes on it in the package is WAY too short (I am 6 foot 5 so its extra short for me) but the replacement string that comes with it is literally perfect length for me! (belly button to floor)
If you are considering this yoyo, stop considering trust me it is boss!
This yoyo is very light. Being light is both a strength and a weakness. It allows a beginner to use this yoyo a lot, without causing fatigue or string burn as quickly. It also doesn't have a super long spin-time, although it can be used for more advanced string tricks.
Like many yoyos, it takes some breaking in before this yoyo will perform. This yoyo seems sluggish/slow at first, but once I broke it in, it improved a lot.
The adjustable nature of this yoyo is perfect if you are learning to use a yoyo or wanting to try an unresponsive yoyo.
Shipping was on time, extra fast. Handling was flawless as well; packages arrived perfectly new as they should've ^^
It came with everything marketed--the actual Yo-yo (Velocity), an extra string (not sure if it's cotton/polyester) and a little trick pamphlet.
Quality + Functionality: ★★★★☆
This yo-yo's adjustment feature is very useful when it comes to learning tricks; it effects its responsiveness so when it's set to Easy (Responsive) it returns to your hand when you pull it, and Pro (Unresponsive) so that it doesn't. However, the dial is a little on the small side. My fingers aren't all that big (although they are kinda long) and I find it difficult to adjust the dial sometimes. You should also be cautious about adjusting it too far; I adjusted it to Easy too far once, and had to grab a pliers to loosen it and re-adjust.
The string it comes with is adequate for performance, but it runs a little short (for me, and I'm 5'8-9). It's pretty resilient, however; I did countless tricks before having to replace it, which I only did because of a knot that had gotten tied in the string that wouldn't let me put it to sleep, and that was my own fault :')
As for the actual performance, this bad boy can kick some basic yo-yo tricks in their shins. I've only started out yo-yoing, so I can't say anything about how it handles professional, unresponsive moves but I've seen some pros kick ass with it on full-out Pro mode so I have high expectations once I get to that level. As for its sleep time, I put it to sleep when I first got it and the longest I've managed was ~40-45 seconds.Read more ›
