Now I'm older I suffer daily from the injuries I incurred throughout my youth. This has led to a lack of exercise and other physical activity due to the pains I know will follow. As a knock on, this also led to weight gain - a lot of weight gain.
I first heard of DDP Yoga by accident when reading an article about a wrestlers aim to help the world become healthier. I read about what Page had already achieved, and what his ambitions were to move forward. Being a cheapskate I initially refused to buy the DVD's of Page's yoga program and opted for this book, which given account credit I had barely cost a dime out of my pocket.
I developed a rudimentary video with exercises from this book accompanied by child like drawings and used it twice a week. I felt results as quickly as 2 weeks in. Morning pains a little less prominent. Evening pains not as acute. I was sold on the idea, and the delivery method by Page helped keep me reading.
I took the plunge and bought a DVD set. Over the next 3 months I dropped over 40 lbs and felt better than I had in years. Then I got stupid, started lifting weights, got too much weight to show off and tore my rotator cuff. Feeling sorry for myself I stopped exercising and over the next year gained back every pound I'd lost and feel like crap again.
Just finished re-reading this book while on vacation and I'm ready to go with DDPYoga again when I get home. This time I will stick to the yoga and let it do what I know it can do.
The YRG workouts combine staple yoga poses with dynamic resistance, and the workouts are fun, deliver results and are as intense you want to make them.
The book was written in 2005 and since then Diamond Dallas Page has further developed his exercise program with DVDs and just recently an app. The name has changed from Yoga for Regular Guys to YRG Fitness to DDPYoga, but the workouts in his book are the originals he developed and recommended, and suitable, for all ages and body types. The book guides you how to adjust the workouts to match your current fitness and flexibility levels. After reading this book, I got both the original and 2.0 workouts on DVD, but I still go back and refer to this book to add in extra spot workouts and use as a guide to better learn the positions to get maximum effect out of them.
A must read.
