Are you tired of slipping on your yoga mat?
As you begin your yoga practice and the intensity increases…the problem is, the more you sweat – the more you slip! This is often an issue with PVC plastic and rubber mats. Rubber mats closed cell design allows moisture to collect on the surface of the mat which causes slippage.
A mat material other than plastic or rubber could offer a better alternative and help solve this problem.
Yogasana mats are made of 100% cotton.
This natural fiber absorbs moisture and provides superior grip so ---the more you sweat the more you stick on your mat! It’s an easy concept to understand. When your cotton jeans get wet in a rain storm you have to practically peel them off because there is so much stick. The absorbent quality of cotton works to your advantage with our hand-made mats.
The lowest priced yoga mat is not always the least expensive! Yogasana is the best Value!
If you buy a rubber mat for $50 and replace it every 18 months, after 3 years you will have invested $150. If you replace your rubber mat every year (more intensive practice/outdoor use) after 3 years you will have spent $200 on your mats! Yogasana is a much better Value. Initially the cost is a bit more, but this mat will last: 3 years, 5 years,10 years. After the15 year minimum life of your mat - you will have less than $6 per year invested.
After years of service, use your mat as a hall runner in your home. It will never end up in a landfill, which is the destination for most plastic and rubber mats. Yogasana mats are truly kind to the earth!
When you receive your mat, you will experience the firm feel of the cotton weave. Over time, with your long union (yoga) - your mat will get softer with continued use and washing.
Your mat can be used outdoors as well as indoors without affecting its performance. Grass, sand, decking, textured tile and carpet are all good foundations for this mat. For better stability on a smoother (polished) surface, you can place your Yogasana mat on top of an existing rubber mat or even use a Grip it! Pad available from Yogasana.
Our mat is adaptable and works well for most styles of yoga : Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Bikram, Hot, Kundalini, Yin, Prenatal, Restorative, Anusara and Vini-yoga.
Your mat is signed by the weaver who made it. This signature represents the hand-off from his hands to yours. All our production workers are paid above the prevailing wage. Our foundation, Yogasana Circle, makes a donation with the sale of each mat towards the education of their children. Your mat purchase helps this cause. We believe the karma is good.
Hand-made with superior grip – long lasting – indoors/outdoors – all styles of yoga – remarkable value – kind to the earth and giving back. These qualities represent our brand.
Buy a mat – join our cause! Your gift of a Yogasana mat to a yogi/yogini friend will put you at the top of their list for years to come. That’s a small price to pay to gain such a cherished position.
Slip vs. Grip
With some mats the more you sweat… the more you slip. With our cotton mats, the more you sweat…the more you grip!

Where this mat really shines is for more relaxed yoga like yin yoga, and doing yoga outdoors. I bring this to park when I want to stretch outdoors or do yoga with friends and it's perfect. I also love using it for doing yin or restorative yoga because the feel of the material is nice and helps cushion your joints from the floor.
TLDR: I recommend this mat but with some reservations, I don't think it's for everyone but its definitely way better than your standard mat.
These mats are Eco-friendly and sustainable. They are hand woven in India, and it takes a total of 10 days per mat to make. No machinery means leaving a zero carbon footprint on the Earth! They use cotton dyes and the process is natural. They also have the Yogacircle cause; which donates a portion of all sales to the talented master weavers children for their education. With that being said, there is no child labor and they always pay fair wages. These mats have incredible energy, that you truly FEEL...As someone spent a great deal of time and focus to make it.
I am SO thankful for them for creating such a one of a kind mat, and for Kevin and the Yogasana team! Much love to the entire team, keep up the amazing work. You truly ARE making a difference!
Kevin also sent some complementary sandlewood incense with the mat, how sweet is that?! I highly recommend these mats to ANYONE, they are truly worth every dollar spent.
After reviewing other mats, Yogasana seemed to have the best reputation (see other reviews) and quality. After using if for over a month I find the workmanship (i.e. tight weaves) of the mat to be excellent. It seems like it will last a long long time. Now for color options!! Lots to choose from, I went with the either. It is a nice faded purple.I almost want to buy more just to have additional colors. Definitely worth the money, highly recommended. Say good bye to rubber mats!!
The mat is not soft but it gets better with each wash. Other reviews thought this was a negative but I was neutral on it. If you want a softer mat, I recommending getting a rubber mat.
The quality of the stitching is ok.
The thickness of the mat is perfect. The description states it is thick but I would consider it medium.
The color is very good. Even after the dye ran on the first two washes, I still liked the purple color.
On a wooden floor, the mat can move significantly depending on the yoga class. I am going to try spraying the bottom of the mat with a little water to get better traction. Outside, the mat works much better.
I am not sure whether I would buy this mat or any cotton mat again due to the lack of grip on a wooden floor.
