Beginner's w/Patty (45 min)
PM Relax & Restore w/Patty (10 min)
Learning Guide w/Patty (15 min)
You'll excuse me not knowing the full names of the instructors, they didn't give their last names, nor could I find the credits anywhere, not even at the end of any of the segments. I could not even find info on the yogaworks site.
Patty's teaching style -
She does tell you always when to inhale/exhale which is great, she tells you what areas each pose strengthens, she gives good postural instructions on how to do the poses correctly, but her teaching style & voice is the style of an aerobics or toning gym class. Her voice is not soothing, I believe she doesn't always give the Sanskrit names of the poses, nor uses terms that are more aligned with traditional teaching like Rodney Yee, etc. This style has a more watered-down, Western style which many people do like, but not myself. Adding to that that this is hatha style to the point you will be standing waiting in between each pose while she introduces them & each pose is separate from each other w/o flow except for sun salutations. The ending meditation is as another said, has her speaking about what to visualize with the same no-nonsense voice.
Billy's style -
Unfortunately he only gets 10 min. His style was more traditional in that he had you do chair & then right after go into a standing fwd bend which I always do together even if the instructor does not as it just doesn't feel right unless you do. He does grunt or sighs a few times, but the same as anyone would when feeling & enjoying the energy more better in the body when you feel the stretch.Read more ›
I love the AM/PM portions of this DVD. 10 quick minutes each. My favorite is the AM routine. I can do it in my PJs, and it really does build heat in the muscles and help me wake up. It involves stretching your arms, legs and back. Plus a few sun salutations, chair pose, tree pose, and cat/cow. The PM routine really is relaxing and I am ready to hop in bed right afterwards. I like that it keeps the harder poses to a minimum and really focuses on calming the mind and body. The instructor walks you thru a few minutes of corpse pose and her voice is so soothing it almost puts me to sleep.
The 45 minute routine walks you through the poses they use in the AM and PM routines plus some more and is a good introduction to yoga. I use it when I have some extra time and want to get in a workout without sweating too bad. I always feel wonderful afterwards.
I would suggest this video for people starting out with yoga or for people looking for a basic and quick AM/PM yoga workout.
The only problem I have (which really isn't a problem, just a preference) is that I enjoy a longer shavasana. So what I do is let her talk me into the position, then stop the tape. All the while I have my liquid mind amazon radio station playing so I just let the relaxation take over after she's got us in the final pose. I created my own ending based on a yoga class I took locally last summer. That gives me more time to delve deeper into the relaxation and that's the only reason I create my own ending, other than that, I love this video.
