Format: Vinyl
Vinyl aficionados already know that Jim Croce's albums on vinyl are a well-recorded delight of vocals and at times sparse instrumentation, but this new Friday Music 180g pressing is an absolute wonder.

"New York's Not my Home," "Photographs and Memories," "Operator" and others on this album have simply not sounded this good before, at least compared to the copies of Croce's albums I've been able to obtain on vinyl AND CD. The pressing is lively and delightfully quiet with zero pressing noise and comes in a very nice reprint of the original album cover.

Thanks, Friday Music for bringing the music of this wonderfully talented singer/songwriter who left us far too early back to vinyl, and I certainly hope you'll reissue the balance of the Croce collection.

This is not an audiophile's review; just an average listener's. I can't speak to the engineering of the recording. There were no obvious flaws in the recording. It sounds just like the vinyl album from 40 years ago.
This is my favorite of Croce's albums.
Maury Muchleisen's guitar is the thing that mesmerizes us in "Time in a Bottle" and my favorite, "Photographs and Memories." I won't list all the tunes, because they are just as given in the Amazon listing and as the original album, in the same order on the CD. And at $3.99, you can't get a better value.
The CD came in a standard jewel box. The liner includes the lyrics of the tunes, but does not cite credits for the other musicians. There are no other notes either (history, etc.).

I love how this sounds on vinyl, it has such a vintage sound if that makes sense, as if Jim Croce himself is there performing live for you.
What a musician he was, every song is beautifully written and recorded, so sad how he left us, but he still lives on through his music.

I was very happy to find this item. I had the 8 track when I was young and have been unable to find the CD. I was Very pleased with the quality. Almost every song I like on this can be found in various other albums and 'Best of' types but this arraingement is the one that brings back the memories of 'That summer'.

This album has some amazing stories all over it. From the stabbing death of a poolroom hustler, to a musician taken in by a woman who ripped him off and left him homeless, along with a guy who was sweet-talked into buying a real lemon of a car, not to mention the poor stiff whose girlfriend left him for his best friend. He pours his heart out to a telephone operator and just wants to believe this whole situation wasn't real, and wants to assuage his true feelings with kind words.

Should Jim Croce have been a novelist? Oh, yeah. In fact, I was recently surprised to read that his albums weren't selling very well and that he wasn't making much money as a musician, leading him to his decision to call it quits and become a screenwriter at the end of the tour during which he tragically lost his life. If he'd lived and carried out his plans, there would be no more music after "I Got a Name", but who knows what great stories he would have told in another medium.

Jim Croce was a master at crafting a song. The prosity between music and lyric is uncanny. The Lyrics to songs like "Box #10", "New York's Not My Home" or "Time in a Bottle" are both sophisticated and eloquent. I cannot imagine where Croce would stand in our musical society if he had not been untimely killed in a plane crash. If you do not own this album, get it quick. You have a "heart-back guarantee", and believe me, you won't need it. You will become a Croce disciple!

This is the first of three albums released. It is so unique, as is the artist. Lyrics that tug at your heart and make you laugh, put together with the fantastic music created by Jim and Maury. two absolutely dynamic musicians. Would so recommend!

Arrived quickly after order was placed, CD and case were in great condition. It plays without any problems or difficulties, and takes me back to my teenage years of listening to the songs on my parent's record player.
