Enjoyable to read and informative

Dave has an easy style and it makes for fun reading. Read it one sitting. Lot of good and some great tips. For example I’ve never been a big believer in bonds as a diversifying tool but Ken’s examples made me go out and create a spreadsheet and look up historical bond and stock indices. Sure enough, when I compared the 20 year period from 2000-2020 I became believer. The 50-50 stock to bond mix preserved my capital through some very bad years. A point not clear in the book is the 5% withdrawal per year means some years total cash will be a lot less and if one is used to living on $100k but then only can pull $80k the next year there will be some adjusting to do. No magic bullet for that.
The only other area David is emphatic about that 4 other books I read were just as emphatic in the opposite direction was long term care. He argues that few people will need 5 years or more of long term care. However, the other authors argue that 70% of us old fogies will need care for more than a year. Since costs are more than $100k per year, long term care could put a real dent in your capital. I need to investigate this more.
Overall, David’s somebody I’d like to have a beer with. His message is don’t worry, be happy. I have to say it worked on me

The Easiest and Most Fun Read About Retirement

I love to read but this book was the easiest and most fun read about retirement strategies for individuals.
Like most people, I inhale daily news and financial facts -- much of which is negative and full of fear.

Spend More, Worry Less is a book filled with real life examples of people financially starving themselves due to the fear of not having enough money in retirement. So, while the advice sounds brash, David's analysis of the stock market and retirement savings of the last 40 years shows a powerful trend that people in retirement are missing out on enjoying the best times of their life and passing away with more money than they could spend.

In perspective, when reading this book, you'll discover that there are different levels of spending in retirement. For example, not everyone has the resources to do a worldwide cruise but you might have enough to eat out several times a week and not just at McDonalds.

I would encourage you to read this book and change your mindset about how to plan and spend in retirement.

I have accumulated assets but I had absolutely no clue when to retire. Turns out I am more than ready! I am planning my career exit strategy this very second. This author more than convinced me it’s time to retire!

Better yet, I am convincing husband to spend and travel in the next decade. We are already discussing trips.

Other advisors were telling me I am ready to retire but they could not articulate why. This author does a very thorough job of telling me why the time has come.

I've read so many books on financial investment and retirement, I've lost count. Spend More, Worry Less by Dave Kennon is hands down the best book on this topic I've ever read. Why? Because it's REAL!. The author does not try to impress you with terms that you'll never understand, or scare you with the typical tactics of many investment advisors and TV commentators.
In a culture where the economy is consistently up and down, the content of Spend More, Worry Less is critically needed. What Kennon echoes over and over is to take a deep breath, don't forget historical evidence of market consistency, and ENJOY YOUR INVESTMENTS! I literally can't put this book down. Love, love, love his style, and you will too!

I have been retired for several years now and I have been consistently disappointed by the advice I have received from so called "Advisors". You work all your whole life to enjoy that retirement moment and then start to worry about your money, will it last, where to invest, can I afford to take an income etc. Retirement can be stressful! This book and meeting with Dave Kennon has for the first time has made my wife and I feel confident that we can enjoy and live a financially stress free life. If you are retired or thinking about it - then buy this book, better still, talk to Dave. His approach will provide sound, sensible advice without any fancy PowerPoints or any "snake oil pitch" to help you feel comfortable in retirement.

David has an extraordinary way of storytelling instead of lecturing on this most difficult subject for me to understand. In this wonderful book he validates concerns about retirement and worries about spending and even goes as far to encourage us to safely enjoy the life we worked hard for in our earlier years. David shares his own family life and joys and helps me to feel like he really understands and hears my concerns and does not expect the reader to know everything about our retirement funds and investments!
Truly a MUST READ for anyone that wishes financial freedom. I bought copies for all three of my adult children to get them prepared now for an amazing retirement ! Madelyn

As someone that is prone to an overly conservative approach to personal finance planning, it was extremely helpful to read the insights and perspective offered by Mr Kennon. We don't have to just hoard our assets - we can be secure in our futures while still enjoying the fruits of our labors! This perspective on looking toward retirement with a sense of possibility rather than a vague sense of dread is invaluable, and the approachable way in which Dave shares the lessons learned in his years of experience makes this book a must-read.

This book is extremely interesting and helpful in understanding the long term goals for retirement. The author's approach is sensible and based on the realities of long term investment. Highly recommend this book for those looking at retirement planning guidance. As Americans we tend to seek instant gratification. Retirement planning is long term , therefore this book will help you modify and lower anxiety.
