Excellent book. Mr. Greenblatt masterfully explains his frameworks for spotting and assessing investing opportunities, both at the micro and macro level. Few stock market books pull back the curtain in such a succinct and lucid way. I highly recommend this book, although I know I am late to the party.

I enjoyed this one. It's a great start in looking at special situation investing and the writing style fits my taste. Straightforward with some pretty dry humor injected to keep you going.

Special situation investing is a big payoff for a small amount of work. This is not a good book for a novice investor, but an experienced investor, who can overlook the corny title, will find valuable gems inside these pages.

Don't let the dorky name fool you, this book is an very good introduction to Special Situation Investing. I could not put this book down. Greenblatt has a very entertaining voice that adds to the already interesting subject material. The book is written with the idea that anyone could pick it up and maybe learn something about value investing, but it also contains reams of information that would be useful to most any experienced investor with a value perspective. Greenblatt certainly gives you perspective as to where value is frequently found, and how an investor can take advantage of inefficiencies in the market.

Gives you the necessary information to get started, but doesn't give you unrealistic expectations that you won't have to research companies on your own or you'll get instantly rich

Enjoyable read which emphasizes the importance of a) looking for value where others are not, b) prospering from the institutional herd mentality and c) avoiding risk as defined by potential for loss, not volatility. A great read for any value investor.

Lots of good investing nuggets in this one, especially investing in spinoffs. Makes you pay attention to WSJ news regarding company spinoffs. A relatively easy read, but don't confuse the read with the analysis required to implement Greenblatt's investment suggestions.
