This book provides a good introduction to the gospel of grace then gets down to the serious business of training believers how to do the works and greater works of Jesus. There is a strong emphasis on healing. If you are sick, or know sick people, or ever pray for sick people, you definitely need to read this book!
This is a very practical book written by a very practical author. Cornel Marais is not an academic or a pastor. Rather, he is a part of that take-it-to-the-streets generation who do first and write second. If youÂ're tired of hearing reasons why people arenÂ't getting healed, if you would rather just learn how to set people free from someone whoÂ's been doing it with proven results, then read this book.
In the preface he states "The way you think is probably the single most important change you will need to make, next to believing in Christ, in order to fully walk in the grace that abounds to each of us." This says it all- this is why this book should be read by every Christ follower. Romans 12:2 is how we are to know our identity in Christ, to know the love of God that is shed abroad in our hearts and how to be in the world but not of the world.
He expounds on the scripture- 1 Cor 2:4-5-And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.- He writes, "Paul makes it very clear that in order to fully, or completely preach the gospel there has to be evidence in the form of signs and wonders by the power of the Holy Spirit." He uses scripture after scripture to show this truth- let's just say I am excited to better understand and know this truth and see it manifest in my life and the lives of those around me!!!
One of my favorite scriptures that he dissects is 1 John 4:17- as he (Jesus) is, so are we in this world. This is our identity!!!! Cornel writes " He(Jesus) is perfectly righteous, perfectly holy, perfectly sanctified. We are thus also perfectly righteous, perfectly holy and perfectly sanctified in Him through the free gift of His righteousness that came by grace alone through faith." WOW!!!!! This is who we are as Christ followers - we have what he has-we lack NOTHING!!!!
His chapter Grace Upon Grace had some wonderful reminders- like "People get forgiven, not sin", "You are forgiven once and that sacrifice is still complete no matter what sins you might still commit in the future." I was blown away by how much I still lived under the old covenant law. But as the word says the 2 don't mix(new wine in an old wineskin) Hebrews 7:18-19 says it all- The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. Cornel writes when referring to the scripture Gal 3:21-22 " Paul says there is NO law that can give life. The purpose of the law is to show you the only option you have is faith." This is summed up with this- "Imagine you have to choose between 2 kinds of blessings. The first kind you can only receive if you perfectly fulfill the requirements needed to receive it. The second also had requirements, but someone else already met them and chose to share the reward equally with you. Which would you choose?"
This is just the first 2 chapters but the entire books is the Word of God first and then the simple revelation of these scriptures that are transforming in every way. Just wait until you get to the part where he explains the difference between milk and meat- I am still in awe over that truth =)
This book helped me before confident to step out and really be Light and Salt in this world, rather than waiting for something to happen. Rather it awakens the reader to the reality of the New covenant, and helps us to rely on Christ in us, to change the world.
I highly recommend this book for those who seek to move in Divine Healing and Evangelism.
Do you believe you "truly" understand "Grace"? Ok, if you do, read this book and compare your belief to this book's interpretation! I look forward to your feedback. This book is priceless, read it - even if know you truly believe you understand God's "Grace". I will re-read and re-read this book until it is branded in my mind!
