In the newest installment of her series Carole Roman takes us to Italy, and gives us a glimpse of what it would be like to live there.
I feel like these books should be featured on Reading Rainbow. It's the type of story that lends itself to being read out loud and shared. Personally I love how much history and language is incorporated into the story. Also incorporated are a couple of holidays, including International Women's Day that are more unique to Italy. It's a wonderful way to travel the world while relaxing at home.

This book deals with the country of Italy. It begins with a brief history and geography of this country and then goes on and examines cultural aspects which include food, sports and home life. I feel that one of the most note worthy aspects of this book and the other in this series is that after reading them and discussing them, children will realize that life in other countries is quite similar to the one they live in them selves...children are children no matter where they grow up.
The book is well illustrated by Kelsea Wierenga and the illustrations fit the text perfectly. The text hold a large smattering of Italian words and the author has given us a very nice Pronunciation Guide at the back of the book. This is another aspect of these books I like; they give the child a very nice introduction to different languages. It this case the reader will find many familiar words that have been assimilated into our English language yet will be introduced to many new words.
So far there are 16 books (16 countries) covered in this series. By last count there are at present 196 recognized countries in the world. Ms. and her illustrator have many fertile fields yet to plow. I cannot wait for Ms. Roman to tackle Rankopedia, Comoros, Kiribati, Vanuatu and Tuvalu!
Keep them coming Ms. Roman!

Reading this young and old will learn so much such as, where is Italy, what does their Country look like, what do they speak, what are their different traditions?, and more. Let me just say when you are finished reading you will feel as if you have taken A wonderful trip and been part of a great Nation, that's how alive the read becomes.
As always our Author doesn't leave out important detaIls about this Nation, but she also adds that special touch that brings the people there to life in your mind's eye. Colorful and Bold, pictures are given which are wonderful to gaze upon. and bring the words you are reading to life. Listen, I learned more about Italy by reading this, and I thought I knew a lot. This is a great read for both young and old and I'm happy to recommend it to you. Young and old will enjoy this book from beginning to end. Book received for a honest review.
The books are all in the 20-25 page range and contain a pronunciation guide on the last page. We were provided review volumes and my wife uses them in her preschool classroom to introduce other cultures and customs to the students.
This Italy edition teaches about the country, the Roman Empire, Rome, names, money, the Coliseum, food, football, le Festa delle Donna, and more. These are fun educational books for young learners. My wife really likes them for her preschool kids.
