Bethy actually became a great a character to me. This book helped me understand why she had the attitude and mind set that she did. Had I been her shoes I might have done the same things.
As far as Tripp my love for his character shocked me. Rush will always be number one but Tripp is my runner up. The fact that he was willing to love Bethy from a far when she had jace made me want to cry. He had never let go of the love he had for her. Eight years later and the death of his cousin Jace and he was still just trying to make sure she was taken care of. The fact that a guy like him would have loved Bethy from afar for a lifetime was something that made me cry. This kind of big love is the kind that gives us all hope. We all want that kind of love.
I got worried about the ending in the last few chapters but then Glines' did it again. The perfect ending for a great couple that really deserved their happily ever after. By the end of this book I was crying happy tears.
Now, on to my actual review. From my rant at the beginning, it's clear that I loved this book. Bethy has always been one of my favorite characters from this series and to get a glimpse into what she went through and how her and Tripp developed was magical. They loved each other so much but they (well mostly Bethy) just couldn't see past the hurt. I'm glad that they found each other and that the ending was so special. Bethy deserved her happily ever after, especially after everything she had been through. I can't wait for Kiro's Emily to be released as well as the next Rosemary Beach story. Kudos to Abbi for doing it once again!
While Bethy wasn't always an easy character to like in the earlier books, now that I've spent a book inside her head, I get it. I understand why she is how she is. I definitely connected with her during You Were Mine. The poor girl had been through so much and was carrying far too much guilt over the past. She definitely hadn't had an easy life. Tripp has been an enigma to me since he was first introduced into the series. I didn't know what to think about him at first, but now I'm a fan. I loved how he relentlessly pursued Bethy (without crossing into creepy territory). It was obvious he cared about her and wanted her to be happy and live again. Hopefully, with him.
It probably goes without saying, but I loved this couple. Once I learned everything about their history, there isn't a doubt in my mind that things are how they were meant to be. It does still break my heart that Jace had to die for them to find their way back to each other though. It can't have been an easy story for Abbi to write either. It was difficult to read sometimes because of Bethy's pain and guilt and because Jace was SUCH a likable guy and it devastated me when he died earlier in the series. But at the same time, it was impossible not to stay hopeful and wish for Bethy to find her happily ever after with the first guy she ever loved. They were just so right together. There's no way you can read Bethy and Tripp's history and not root for this couple.
Abbi's done it again! I love this series and her characters and storytelling. I always find myself completely wrapped up in the story, rushing to the end so I can find out what happens, but then sad when it's all over and I have to let them go. You Were Mine was no exception. But, I do know Abbi's books well enough to know that this isn't the last we'll see of them. I can't wait for the next Rosemary Beach book and an update on their lives now. So many warm fuzzy feels!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
