"No BS. Straight shooting! Anyone able to match the clarity and concision of this guide in an approach to online freelancing would be well on their way to success. I read this with an open mind, thirsty for an understanding of what opportunities might exist in the field for me in semi-retirement. What I took from the book was a YES, but that there are no shortcuts. This step-by-step instruction manual identifies the pathway to establishing a potentially successful online freelancing business." - Blake Malone
"This book is full of down-to-earth, practical advice and it's presented in a positive and encouraging way. I couldn't have read this book at a better time. My husband was just laid off after fourteen years in local television. He's talked for a long time about becoming a freelance photographer and now he has the opportunity, along with the great information in this book, to make this dream a reality. What a great book!" - Pandora Spocks
"....written in very clear, deliberate language. It is a quick, informative read and a great place to start if you are looking to get into freelancing. There are many articles online about freelancing, but like anything one gets for free, they have to be taken with a grain of salt. Lancaster has taken the time to put together a quality product here, and it is the first place I will steer friends looking to get into freelancing work." - DC Book Reviews
"It had the feel of good, solid advice offered over a steaming cup at a coffee shop by an honest friend who has made the journey into freelancing on her own and learned many important lessons along the way." - Stephanie
"It reviews the basic stepping stones to ensuring that you can position yourself to find the right clients and earn the right fee. You will review the tools you need and the skills required as well as where to start seeking out clients. The author also shares nuggets of "learn from my mistakes" that every freelancer needs to understand." - Nanette

From the Author
2 years ago several life changing events occurred. My mother passed away, our company was acquired, and my husband was hospitalized. A woman can only take so much. In rebellion, my hair started shedding. Alopecia. What more can happen, right?
The loss of income was painful, with bills and mortgages to pay. Good thing, I have laid out the foundation of a freelancing career when I started writing for a freelancing site after my mom passed away. The income was small in the beginning as I felt my way around the industry. Debts piled up. I was desperate to recover from my financial slump. I researched and learned and acquired new skills - more than 10 hours every day.
But that's all history now. As a top rated freelancer with regular clients, and with my author services site, The Book Khaleesi, I've managed to surpass my previous income. I'm still stressed, but in my pajamas, in the comforts of home...
This book is a short guide for everyone who wants to earn as a freelancer online. Skip the disappointments and heartaches I went through along the way, and go straight into profitability - with realistic expectations, knowing what to avoid and what to focus on. Acquire the right mindset for success.
Can you earn a decent living by freelancing? Absolutely. But, it all depends on you.
Read. Learn. Earn.
Before all these, I was at the peak of my career. An executive assistant to the President of one of the biggest BPOs in the Philippines. I was stressed out but comfortable financially. When the doctors told me my Alopecia was caused by the stress of the past year, and when our company was acquired, and when I started losing my hair... What can a girl do? I quit. I worked in that company for 11 years.

Eeva Lancaster's book You Want to be an Online Freelancer... Now What? is a great book for freelancers all around the world, including the United States. That being said, I do feel if you live outside the US, you might benefit even more from this book. I feel that Eeva's book is very much the What Color is Your Parachute of the freelancer niche. The most important thing to me was she broke down the most important sites to obtain freelance work, how to do it properly, and for she taught how to make money with longevity. The other thing I liked about the book was that she gave multiple skill sets time and attention so that not only web designers would benefit from this short book.

Encouragement, motivation, guidance, and wit - that's what you'll find in Ms. Lancaster's newest 'Now What?' book. While I'm not a freelancer (well, not yet), I read this book in one sitting. I bought it, then sat down to eat breakfast while reading and just kept turning pages! Eeva Lancaster's easy conversational style pulls you in and her wisdom keeps you turning pages. She inspires her readers, but doesn't sugar coat the demands of being a freelancer. The quotes that begin each chapter are very motivating as are many personal comments she shares. I was highlighting and bookmarking the entire time I was reading. Her straight-forward advice and guidance are worth the purchase. Add in the resources she provides and you will be glad you picked up this gem. Really, buy it now!

This is a great reference book for an aspiring or beginner freelancer. I normally shy away from how-to books. Dry statistics and corporate-speak make the words swim on the page and my mind wander to far more interesting prospects. Not true with this book. I was right in it, from cover to cover. It had the feel of good, solid advice offered over a steaming cup at a coffee shop by an honest friend who has made the journey into freelancing on her own and learned many important lessons along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars
a well-written guide book, clear, concise, free of pink promises and cheap lies of quick fortune
Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2017
That book is a perfect introduction for the poor naive wannabe freelancers. It is really useful for those who live with the illusion that working for yourself is easy, that you can make lots of money without much effort, that freelancing is a ticket to an absolute freedom. Eeva Lancaster crushes these thoughts with her direct, sugar free style. She spares you nothing and shares a lot of her personal experience, both bad and good, and at the same time, she doesn’t discourage you. Instead, the book draws a pretty realistic picture of what you can expect should you choose the path of online freelancing and becoming your own boss. Reading the book made me imagine the author as a firm teacher who gives you a dose of tough love by stripping you of any naivety and inspires you to be the absolutely bets you can be, living the life you want to. Spoiler alert, it shows you that it is up to you if you’d make it or fail.
“You Want To Be A Freelancer” is a guide for those who make their first steps in the highly competitive field and want to find out how to begin the career path of their choice. The author gives practical advice on the tools you need to start, on the importance of a well done portfolio, the pros and cons of different websites offering freelancer jobs or the chance for bid for them. She also shows you the mindset you should acquire in order to truly make a success of yourself. I learned a lot from the simple, straight to the point and practical guidelines Eeva had laid out. After I finished reading the last pages I felt truly inspired to start my journey as a freelancer.
If you want a well-written guide book, clear, concise, free of pink promises and cheap lies of quick fortune to help you with your initial steps, I’d hotly recommend Eeva Lancaster’s You Want To Be A Freelancer. I look forward to more of her work and invaluable experience. She knows her craft and is very generous about sharing what she learned along the way.

In You Want to Be an Online Freelancer…Now What? Eeva Lancaster spills the beans on exactly what it means to be an online freelancer and what it takes to establish your own viable business. As a successful freelancer herself, Eeva chronicles her journey from executive assistant to full-time online freelancer.
The book begins with the touching personal story of how Eeva realized too late that keeping up with the ‘rat race’ kept her away from the most important things in life. When that served as her wake-up call, she became determined to live a different life independent of corporate confines, and in this book she gives us the benefit of the lessons she’s learned along the way.
Some of the things Eeva outlines include the importance of creating a portfolio of your work, managing your time appropriately, and building up your professional credibility. She lists the essential tools you need to do the work and manage your business.
One of the most important concepts of the book is the fact that “Your skill is your product.” Eeva goes on to discuss some of the most common services that online clients need and she includes examples of job listings offered to freelancers.
Next comes a section where she recommends specific websites where one can register to be a freelancer and browse for jobs and referrals. One of the most vital elements is to create an attractive and effective profile, one that “sells yourself.”
Finally, she discusses the advantages and challenges of freelancing.
This book is full of down-to-earth, practical advice and it’s presented in a positive and encouraging way. I couldn’t have read this book at a better time. My husband was just laid off after fourteen years in local television. He’s talked for a long time about becoming a freelance photographer and now he has the opportunity, along with the great information in this book, to make this dream a reality. What a great book!
