There are opportunities to learn about yourself through free assessments as well as paid. I did both as I wanted the full experience.
The assessments revealed things I knew about myself when I was 19. Things like Iove to learn, am quite scholarly and artistic. Sherry, in fact reveals that a lot of people realise that they had good instincts about what they should pursue as a career when they were young but for one reason or another end up in different paths, which is what happened to me. Being reaffirmed, gives me even more confidence to pursue my dreams, as there are some I have feared.
One of the best moments from this book for me was when I took the Gallup assessment and my result told me that I'm the type who as an adult would enjoy piano lessons! I laughed at the accuracy. I took piano lessons as a child but eventually stopped playing all together until about 5 years ago when a piano became accessible at a library. I started taking piano lessons again nearly 3 years ago so, I was amazed at the accuracy!
This book also covers how to avoid jobs that are a bad fit, as well as networking tips, how to use LinkedIn, experts to consider approaching for help with resume writing, cover letters, true stories to learn from, tips for interview preparation, a section for under 18s, and more.
One of the best things about this book is that it actually shows real examples of cover letters and networking sheets so you can see how to proceed.
The bottom line is, this book is amazing! The best career/job search book I have read and I have read many over the years. There is something for everyone no matter what stage you may be, and it's fun. I don't imagine this book will go out of print as word of mouth is bound to be a major part in its longevity. I bought three more copies as gifts for relatives. Think you know yourself? Get this book and learn even more about yourself. You'll be impressed with yourself and with the author.
The author always manages to enable you to focus on your strengths, on what you CAN do rather than CANT.
I can not recommend it enough.
