This book is great for a beginner like me. It explains not only what to do, but also why to do it and the benefits for each recommendation.
I have high blood pressure and diabetes 2. I have not always eaten the way I should and my AC1 confirmed this fact.
I started cutting out the major sugars (candy, bread, pasta, baked goods, etc). I also stopped eating junk foods (chips, pretzels, etc). I have also stopped eating ice cream. That was 3 weeks ago and I feel better. I am not 100% there, but my symptoms are less.
3 days ago I slipped up and ate things I had not eaten in the past weeks and my body feels terrible.
I am not going to say it is easy, but for me it is well worth it and this book is a great guide.

Zum einen umfasst es absolut alle wichtigen Faktoren, die einen positiven oder negativen Einfluss auf unsere (gesunde) Lebensspanne haben und zum anderen kombiniert es die Theorie mit vielen praktischen Tipps und Ratschlägen bzw. konkreten Maßnahmen, wie wir besser, länger leben können.
Hier und da wiederholt sich Dr. Hyman leider etwas, aber wie heißt es so schön: "Wiederholung macht den Meister."
Je öfter man etwas hört oder liest, desto größer ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass es sich einprägt und hängen bleibt. Daher finde ich es in dem Fall eher positiv, dass er die Kernpunkte wiederholt betont, um ihre Relevanz hervorzuheben.
Hätte das Buch noch umfangreicher sein können?
Definitiv. Es gibt zig Strategien, Tipps, Nahrungsergänzungsmittel, Nuancen bei der Ernährung und beim Training und am Ende muss alles personalisiert werden, um den größten positiven Effekt zu erzielen.
Allerdings wäre das Buch dann vermutlich 1000 Seiten dick, sehr anstrengend und mühsam zu lesen und würde trotzdem nicht jeder individuellen Person gerecht werden.
Aber die grundlegenden Strategien und Tipps, die Dr. Hyman in diesem Buch ausführt und die Möglichkeit, diese über das Quiz für den eigenen Körper anzupassen, um zumindest eine Rangfolge zu entwickeln, was in welcher Reihenfolge optimiert werden sollte, ist meiner Meinung nach ein guter Mittelweg und völlig ausreichend für die ersten, vielen, großen Schritte in Richtung "greater healthspan."
Wer dann noch tiefer einsteigen will, ist mit einem eigenen Coach oder funktionellen Mediziner o.ä. vermutlich am besten bedient.
